The 2016 Acura RDX stands out because Acura gave it a thorough update that went beyond visible changes. Took a while to locate a late model one that had all the electronic safety features. Adaptive Cruise Control, lane keeping assist, cross traffic’ alert, etc. They should all be standard and perhaps on new models they are. It’s a great car and we’ll prices.

Is the 2016 Acura RDX a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Acura RDX earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
The 2016 RDX is presented as a five-passenger crossover SUV with a thorough update that goes beyond styling, including an upgraded powertrain, enhanced safety, and new infotainment technology. That makes it a strong fit if you want a premium compact crossover that feels meaningfully revised rather than lightly refreshed.
The market also shows 32.4% of listings priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2016 RDX is described as expected to be reliable, expected to hold its value well, and expected to be relatively affordable to own over time. Its 3.5-liter V6 is also described as powerful and more fuel-efficient than before, with Variable Cylinder Management helping efficiency by shutting down cylinders during light-load driving.
Acura also notes that premium fuel is recommended for the V6 but not required, which helps keep day-to-day ownership more flexible. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle’s maintenance history is clean and that the powertrain and electronics still behave as intended.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura RDX?
At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a price that looks unusually low. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features operate correctly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version gets the core RDX formula, while the AcuraWatch, Technology, and Advance packages add more equipment; the Advance package includes every factory option and is the most fully equipped choice.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 279 horsepower, a 6-speed automatic, front-wheel drive standard, and available all-wheel drive. The engine is described as more powerful and more fuel-efficient than before, with Variable Cylinder Management helping efficiency.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Technology and Advance packages add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Advance package includes AcuraWatch Plus.
- Infotainment: The RDX uses a dual-screen infotainment setup, with the lower screen dedicated to radio and media and the upper screen handling the rest of the system. The system supports navigation with real-time traffic data, and pairing and streaming a phone is described as easy.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at up to 29 mpg on the highway, and the AWD model is rated at 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. Test results came in at 19.8 mpg on one loop and 22.3 mpg over a week.
Which 2016 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2016 Acura RDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, AcuraWatch, Technology, and Advance.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core V6 powertrain and standard AWD availability without the extra driver-assistance and convenience upgrades found higher up.
- AcuraWatch: This is the best-value trim if you want the important safety tech without jumping all the way to the pricier packages. It adds the AcuraWatch Plus suite, including adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist.
- Technology: This trim adds more convenience and safety equipment, including blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and it builds on the RDX’s dual-screen infotainment setup with the navigation and connected features buyers are likely to want.
- Advance: This is the most fully equipped version, and it includes AcuraWatch Plus plus the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most complete package and don’t mind paying for it, this is the top choice.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 714 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,577, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $14,708 sits slightly below last year's $15,697.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the RDX is described as expected to hold its value well, which supports a steadier ownership experience than you might expect from a luxury crossover.
If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, the combination of premium-brand appeal and solid ownership reputation should help it remain marketable later. The softer current pricing also means your entry cost is lower than it was a year ago, which can improve your long-term value equation.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Acura RDX safe?
The 2016 Acura RDX earns a five-star overall rating from the federal government, with five-star ratings in each collision assessment and a four-star rating for rollover resistance.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch Plus brings adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Technology and Advance trims add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Advance package includes AcuraWatch Plus.
Should I buy a 2016 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- For 2016, Acura gives the RDX a thorough update, upgrading the powertrain, enhancing vehicle safety, and installing new infotainment technologies.
The bottom line: If you want the most updated version of this RDX generation, the 2016 model is the one to target because it brings the refreshed powertrain, safety, and tech package together in a single year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may cost less, but the 2016 is the better pick when you want the revised package and still want to shop a market with meaningful deal availability.
