How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 3.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,071 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10. Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, overall performance, advanced features, and spacious interior, which fits a family-focused luxury SUV. That combination lines up well with the MDX’s role as a refined, athletic three-row SUV, even if the transmission update is a mixed point in the expert review. Good and great deals account for 36.3% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free overall, with praise for its comfortable ride, safety, and value. The expert review adds that the MDX’s materials and overall build quality give the impression that it will last a good, long time, and the cost-effectiveness notes say the model has historically been very reliable. The main ownership risk for used buyers is the transmission-shifting concern mentioned by owners and the expert review, so a careful test drive matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history. Pay close attention to how the transmission behaves on a test drive, since shifting concerns come up in both owner feedback and the expert review. You should also focus on overall condition, because the MDX’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether its luxury features still work properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The MDX is presented as a luxury 3-row crossover with a choice of Super Handling All-Wheel Drive or not, plus option-package-based equipment. Base versions are lighter on features, while higher packages add more comfort, convenience, and technology.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and is paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission for 2016. SH-AWD is available, and the expert review notes that the transmission can feel less satisfying than the previous setup.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is tied to the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a dual-screen setup, and the Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and a solar-sensing climate control system. The Advance Package brings a larger 16.2-inch entertainment display, and Wi-Fi hotspot access is not included.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the 2016 MDX SH-AWD is rated at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the Advance package with Idle Stop can reach 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is sold as a single core trim with equipment layered through option packages, so your decision is really about how much technology and comfort you want. The Technology Package is the best-value path for most shoppers because it adds navigation, premium audio, and important safety tech, while the Advance Package is for you if you want ventilated front seats, remote start, and more convenience features. If you want rear-seat entertainment, the Entertainment Package builds on the higher packages rather than standing alone. AcuraWatch Plus is the key safety-package note to look for if driver assistance matters most to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,071 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,415, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,564 sits slightly below last year's $15,161.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may be steadier if you keep the vehicle in strong condition and document maintenance carefully. The MDX’s strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, but the transmission concern could still influence how quickly a used example moves.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings from the federal government in every single assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is included with the Technology or Advance Package, along with rain-sensing wipers. The safety story is especially strong here, and the only notable caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance features are tied to higher equipment levels.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year adds a new 9-speed automatic transmission, which is the defining update called out for this year.

The bottom line: If you want the 2016 MDX’s blend of safety, refinement, and strong owner satisfaction, it makes sense to focus on well-kept examples with clean history and the right package mix. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and prioritize the best-maintained vehicle rather than the newest badge.

How does the 2016 Acura MDX compare to the 2016 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2016 Acura MDX 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Pilot 7.3/10. The MDX is the more upscale choice, with stronger horsepower, a higher-end feature set, and a better safety score. The Pilot undercuts it on price and offers more listings, so it can make sense if you want similar family-hauler space with a lower entry cost. If you care most about refinement and safety, the MDX has the edge; if value and inventory depth matter more, the Pilot is the easier shopping target.
