How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 4.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,063 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, and overall performance. They also highlight the spacious interior and advanced features, which fit well if you want a family-friendly luxury SUV with a refined feel.

The MDX’s broad appeal comes from its balance of comfort, safety, and athleticism, and that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium three-row SUV that still feels engaging to drive. With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the MDX as reliable, dependable, and a vehicle they can count on, while also praising its long-term quality and overall value. The expert review also notes that the MDX exudes a sense of quality and seems like it will last a good, long time.

The powertrain and ownership experience are not without concerns, though, since transmission shifting is a recurring complaint and the newer transmission setup is a known weak point. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about verifying how the vehicle has been maintained and how the transmission behaves than about the SUV’s core durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, structure, and mechanical condition. Because transmission shifting is a recurring concern, a careful test drive matters just as much as checking cosmetic wear.

Focus on how the SUV drives in stop-and-go traffic, on hills, and during passing maneuvers, since those situations can reveal issues that a short drive might miss. If possible, compare service records across listings so you can separate well-kept examples from vehicles that may have been neglected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The MDX uses a package-based setup rather than traditional trims, and the base version is simpler than higher-spec models. The Technology and Advance packages add more comfort and convenience equipment, while the Advance package brings ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and parking assistance sensors.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and is paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission for 2016. Front-wheel drive is standard, and SH-AWD is available if you want the added traction and torque-transfer capability.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: All models gain Siri Eyes Free compatibility. The Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and a GPS-linked solar-sensing climate control system. The Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat entertainment system and a 110-volt power outlet, and the Advance Package increases the entertainment screen to 16.2 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review notes 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined for the SH-AWD model, with 19 mpg city and 22 mpg combined possible when Idle Stop is used with the Advance package.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is packaged around option groups rather than a wide trim ladder, so your decision is mostly about which equipment bundle you want. The Technology Package is the best-value path for many shoppers because it adds navigation, real-time traffic, premium audio, and useful safety-related tech. The Advance Package is the choice if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and parking assistance sensors.

Safety-package note: AcuraWatch Plus is available on any version of the MDX, but blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,063 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,410, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,413 sits slightly below last year's $15,125.

That softer pricing suggests the MDX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting further value loss than you would with a model that is still dropping quickly.

The MDX’s broad appeal as a family-friendly luxury SUV also helps support demand, especially when buyers are looking for safety, refinement, and a premium badge at a used price. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from the federal government in every single assessment, accompanied by a four-star rollover resistance rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it top ratings across the board, plus an Advanced rating for frontal-impact collision avoidance, and the result is a Top Safety Pick rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package, and rain-sensing wipers are included with those packages as well.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year is defined by the new 9-speed automatic transmission, which is the key update that separates it from the prior year.

The bottom line: The 2016 MDX makes sense if you want a well-rated, safety-focused luxury SUV and you’re willing to shop carefully for a clean example. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the softer market and broad inventory make this a good year to compare multiple listings before you buy.

How does the 2016 Acura MDX compare to the 2016 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2016 Acura MDX 7.5/10 and the 2016 Honda Pilot 7.3/10. The MDX is the more premium and slightly more powerful choice, while the Pilot undercuts it on price and offers more listings to shop from. Both deliver similar fuel economy and similar deal shares, but the MDX stands out more for safety and refinement.
