CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Toyota RAV4
overall

Summary
With 1,999 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,885.00, 28.9% of 2015 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota RAV4 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
54.1% of 2015 RAV4 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a compact crossover that combines perky drivability, high fuel economy, and generous cargo space in a package that is easy to like. Those strengths make it especially appealing to buyers who want a practical SUV that can handle everyday errands and road trips without feeling cumbersome.
It is also helped by improved crash-test ratings, which raise its standing among other vehicles in the class. At the same time, it is not the most exciting choice in the segment, and its lack of extra punch keeps it from being the standout recommendation for shoppers who want more personality or performance. Even so, for loyal Toyota buyers and anyone prioritizing space, efficiency, and a reassuring overall balance, the 2015 RAV4 remains a solid option.

The RAV4 drives great and has most of the features I wanted. The only things I would add is rear air conditioning and cross bars on the roof rack. It drives smooth and gets incredible gas mileage for an AWD vehicle. Im quite happy with my purchase and cant wait for the first big roadtrip!

Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and impressive fuel economy, and they also call out its comfortable ride and good handling. That lines up with the overview: you get a practical compact crossover that works well for everyday errands and road trips without feeling cumbersome. Even so, the RAV4 is not the most exciting choice in the segment, so it fits you best if you value usefulness, efficiency, and a balanced driving experience over personality. The market also shows 30.1% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the model is also described as dependable and trouble-free, with owners emphasizing that it’s a vehicle you can count on for daily use. The expert evaluation reinforces that view by noting strong dependability and quality, and the cost-effectiveness section adds that trouble is unlikely to find the RAV4. Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected or poorly maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?
At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim. If you’re comparing multiple examples, pay close attention to how the cabin, tech, and safety equipment differ from one listing to the next.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is simpler, while the top trim is the only one that can add the optional Technology Package with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning.
- Powertrain: You get a 176-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic; it feels peppy and refined, though it can seem underpowered from a stop.
- Safety package: Every version includes a rear-view camera, but the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for the top trim’s optional Technology Package.
- Infotainment: The available setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and the text highlights smartphone-app access, HD Radio, and traffic and weather reports; the interface can be frustrating to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The RAV4 is estimated at 25 mpg combined, and the test vehicle returned 26 mpg during mostly highway driving.
Which 2015 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE is the most stripped-down choice, and you give up the advanced safety tech that only comes with the top trim’s optional package.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLE is the best value if you want a more appealing everyday setup without jumping to the highest price point.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the one to choose if you want access to the optional Technology Package with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning.
The safety-package note is simple: the optional Technology Package is available only on the Limited trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,021 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.59% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,937.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $14,883 sits slightly above last year's $14,650.
That modest increase suggests the market still values this model year’s practicality and efficiency. For a future seller, that’s a helpful sign: a vehicle with steady demand is usually easier to price confidently and move without heavy discounting. The RAV4’s strong reputation for reliability and usefulness should continue to support buyer interest, especially if your example is clean and well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a three-star protection rating for the front passenger in the frontal-impact assessment.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every version includes a rear-view camera, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning are limited to the optional Technology Package on the Limited trim. Active cruise control and active braking are unavailable, and the expert review also notes that Toyota’s Safety Connect telematics technology is missing altogether. The lower frontal-impact result is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.59% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Improved crash-test ratings and strong cost-effectiveness make this year especially appealing.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $13,624, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $14,883 average.
- It emphasizes class-leading cargo space and everyday practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2015 is the better pick because it combines solid value, strong owner satisfaction, and improved safety standing. If your main goal is to spend less, the 2014 is worth a look, especially if you find a clean example with the space and practicality you want.
