Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota Prius 4.7 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Prius stands out by blending utility, comfort, and fuel economy in a way few cars can match. It is also described as looking better once you have passed it and can see it in your rear-view mirror, which captures how distinctive its styling can be from behind. Even though this version of the car is starting to get old, it remains one of the best modes of transportation for handling the drudgery of daily living, especially when the savings at the gas pump matter most.
Owners of the 2015 Toyota Prius also praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort. The ride is often described as smooth, and Toyota’s reliability is another point in its favor. On the downside, some drivers are frustrated by the audio system and the bulky center console design, so the Prius’s strengths are balanced by a few everyday annoyances.

I have had SUV’s , a high performance BMW, a Lexus Hybrid, but still I find myself 100% satisfied with my 2015 Prius. 2nd one, as I traded it in for my Lexus CT200h. What I really like aside from Toyota reliability, is how smooth and chill my ride is. Unassuming, as I cruise through the streets Los Angeles, never drawing attention, saving on gas, at a point in my life I do not to be flashy and choose calm.

Overall a reliable car. We currently have a 2010 with 213k that has continued to serve us well despite aging. The only nightmare with this car is the bluetooth and audio system. It does not work, it connects for 30 seconds then disconnect or keep saying loading. If this is one of the features you are looking for, do not buy this car, it will drive you insane trying to figure it out. Im surprised that a company like Toyota that makes reliable cars would put out such a sub-par product.

There are 711 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare options. If you find a listing below $11,397.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Prius earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and comfort, and they also call out the smooth ride and Toyota's reliability. That lines up with the overview: you get a car built to handle daily commuting efficiently, with practicality and comfort doing most of the work. The market also shows 30.9% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully rather than rushing.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to Toyota's reliability, and the broader ownership picture emphasizes dependable, trouble-free use with strong long-term value for drivers who want a car they can count on. The expert driving notes also frame it as a car that saves money at the pump and is inexpensive to own and operate. Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a neglected hybrid system or high-mileage wear can erase some of the Prius's ownership advantages.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for efficiency and commuting, condition matters as much as mileage. Pay extra attention to the cabin controls and audio system, since owners mention those as common annoyances.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The trim ladder runs from Two to Five, and the lower trims leave out some of the convenience and technology upgrades that make the car easier to live with.
- Powertrain: You get a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric drive motor, a CVT, and front-wheel drive; the car can run on electricity alone at low speeds and returns strong fuel economy.
- Safety package: Toyota’s Safety Connect is limited to the Four and Five trims, and the Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking.
- Infotainment: Higher trims add navigation, Entune App Suite, expanded Smart Key functionality, a heads-up display, premium audio, and advanced voice recognition.
Which 2015 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: Two, Three, Four, and Five.
Here's the short version:
- Two: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Prius experience at the lowest cost and can live without the extra convenience and tech features found higher up the range.
- Three: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds navigation, Entune App Suite technology, and expanded Smart Key functionality without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims.
- Four: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver, since it can be optioned with a Deluxe Solar Roof Package that adds a heads-up display, premium audio, upgraded navigation, and Toyota’s Safety Connect service.
- Five: This is the most feature-rich choice, with exclusive LED headlights standard and the available Advanced Technology Package adding dynamic cruise control, a pre-collision system, and lane-keeping assist.
Safety Connect is limited to the Four and Five trims, so shoppers who want that feature should avoid the lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Prius?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 711 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 9.02% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,397.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $12,621 sits slightly above last year's $11,577.
That price increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which can help future sellers if demand stays steady. The Prius's efficiency-focused reputation and broad appeal among budget-conscious buyers support its resale profile. At the same time, the model's acquired-taste styling and mixed depreciation reputation mean condition and pricing still matter a lot when you go to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota Prius safe?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it an overall rating of four-star, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Prius a Top Safety Pick commendation.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s Safety Connect system includes automatic collision notification and emergency assistance, but it is restricted to the Four and Five trims. The available Advanced Technology Package adds lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning and braking. A blind-spot warning system is not available.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 9.02% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 combines utility, comfort, and fuel economy while still offering strong reliability and everyday practicality.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $15,188, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $12,621 average.
- The next year brings a new generation with many familiar strengths and a few fresh tricks.
The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and a proven hybrid formula, the 2015 is the easier buy. If you can spend more and want the newer-generation redesign, the 2016 is the better path for shoppers who value the latest iteration over savings.
