How much does the 2015 Subaru Outback cost?

There are 1,390 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2015 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Outback earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its solid ride, luxurious feel, impressive safety features, ample cargo space, and fuel efficiency. That lines up well with the Outback’s role as a practical crossover for everyday use, especially if you want capability without giving up comfort or utility.

There are also some tradeoffs to keep in mind, including a common wish for navigation. Even so, the market shows 30.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a reliable, dependable, and trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers especially appreciating the Outback’s long-term usefulness, solid ride, and confidence-inspiring all-wheel-drive setup. The expert evaluation also describes the model as useful, reliable, safe, and affordable, which reinforces the sense that it’s built to be counted on.

The ownership picture is helped by Subaru’s emphasis on durability and everyday practicality, though the cost-effectiveness score suggests you should still watch running costs closely. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright dependability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Outback?

At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect from the trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5i comes with 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a touchscreen interface for climate and audio, and a roof rack with crossbars. The 2.5i Premium adds 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, fog lamps, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The 2.5i Limited adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, heated rear seats, active fog lights, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane-change assist, while the 3.6R Limited adds a 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, so make sure it still covers your must-have comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 175 hp and uses a CVT, with all-wheel drive standard. The available 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine brings more power, but the standard engine is described as only acceptable for acceleration and can feel short on passing punch.
• Safety package: EyeSight is available on Premium and Limited trims and uses two windshield-mounted cameras to monitor the road ahead, warn you of danger, and brake automatically if needed. The Rear Vehicle Detection System is optional on Premium models and standard on Limited models, adding blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch touchscreen and supports Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, hands-free calling, music streaming, and mobile apps. Navigation is touchscreen-controlled, and the interface is described as simple and easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation says the Outback does not penalize buyers in terms of fuel economy, but it also notes that real-world mileage fell short of expectations during testing.

Which 2015 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Outback formula with standard all-wheel drive, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth, a touchscreen interface, and a roof rack. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra comfort and safety upgrades.
• 2.5i Premium: This trim adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, fog lamps, alloy wheels, and dual-zone climate control. It’s the best-value choice if you want a more comfortable Outback without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• 2.5i Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of convenience and safety equipment, including heated rear seats, a power liftgate, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane-change assist. It’s the most appealing choice for shoppers who want a well-equipped family crossover.
• 3.6R Limited: Choose this if you want the more powerful 6-cylinder engine and the same upscale equipment as the Limited trim, plus Xenon headlamps. It suits you best if stronger acceleration matters more than keeping costs down.

EyeSight is optional on Premium and Limited trims, and the Rear Vehicle Detection System is optional on Premium but standard on Limited.

• Inventory: There are 1,390 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.

What is the 2015 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $10,795 sits slightly below last year's $11,479.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against sellers who are trying to maximize return. If you plan to sell later, you should expect pricing pressure to remain tied to condition, mileage, and equipment level.

The good news is that the Outback still has broad appeal because it blends practicality, safety, and all-wheel-drive capability. Well-kept examples should continue to attract shoppers who want a versatile crossover with a strong reputation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 redesign made the Outback bigger, more refined, and still highly capable.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,346, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $10,795 average.
• It emphasizes active use and family versatility even more clearly.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2015 is the stronger buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad capability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2016 may appeal, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2015 first.

How does the 2015 Subaru Outback compare to the 2015 Toyota RAV4?

Our experts score the 2015 Subaru Outback 8.2/10 and the 2015 Toyota RAV4 7.3/10.

The Outback is the better pick if you want standard all-wheel drive, stronger safety credentials, and a more versatile, wagon-like feel. The RAV4 is cheaper to start, but the Outback offers more capability and a much lower average used price in this comparison.

The RAV4 has a slight edge in fuel economy on paper, but the Outback’s safety equipment and owner satisfaction make it the more compelling used buy for many shoppers. If you value utility, confidence in bad weather, and a stronger overall expert score, the Outback is the one to prioritize.
