What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and prioritize any signs of prior bodywork, airbag deployment, or inconsistent maintenance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful here because condition can vary widely across used listings. Focus on how the car drives, how the cabin equipment works, and whether the safety and convenience features operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and smartphone integration, while Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. Limited trims add 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited adds a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 175 hp and is paired with a Lineartronic CVT that includes a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Subaru’s Active Torque Split AWD system with Active Torque Vectoring is standard, and the setup is tuned more for comfort and stability than excitement.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
• Infotainment: The Starlink system uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, Internet radio apps, and available navigation. The interface also supports smartphone integration and uses separate power, tuning, and volume knobs.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter powertrain is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the value play if you want the core Legacy formula at the lowest entry point. You still get the full suite of power accessories, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration, and standard all-wheel drive, so it covers the basics well.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of comfort and price. It adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command features without jumping all the way to the pricier Limited.
• 2.5i Limited: This is the best-equipped four-cylinder choice and the one that most clearly upgrades the cabin. You get leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and the 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• 3.6R Limited: Choose this only if you specifically want the more powerful 6-cylinder engine and the added Xenon headlamps. It’s the top engine choice in the lineup, but the rest of the trim’s appeal is similar to the 2.5i Limited.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually helpful if you plan to sell later. Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and upgraded EyeSight safety tech.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $8,773, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,399 average.
• It is a practical family sedan that earns praise for fuel economy, safety, comfort, quality, and harsh-weather capability.

The bottom line: Buy the 2015 if you want the newer design, stronger safety tech, and a more upscale feel. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with an older model, the 2014 is the better budget path.
