What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Lexus IS?

At 37.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on overall condition, signs of repair quality, and whether the car’s ride, transmission behavior, and electronics feel consistent with a well-kept example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The F Sport version adds sport seats, a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers, special tires, 18-inch wheels, and larger brake pads, while the standard car is still described as firm enough that you’ll feel road imperfections. If you want the most engaging setup, the F Sport is the one to target.
• Powertrain: The IS 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 306 hp and an 8-speed automatic transmission, and it is described as quick, refined, and especially strong when driven hard.
• Safety package: Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management groups the active safety technologies together, and the car also includes a reversing camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic radar cruise control, and a pre-collision system.
• Infotainment: The system uses a Remote Touch Interface, and the Navigation Package adds Enform features such as advanced voice command, Siri Eyes Free, App Suite connectivity, and Enform Remote app access.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says to expect 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, with a 22-mpg combined estimate.

Should I buy a 2015 Lexus IS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 37.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The year stands out for its sporty, driver-focused character, strong refinement, and multiple powertrain options.

The bottom line: If you want the most engaging version of the IS formula and you’re comfortable with a firmer ride and tighter rear-seat space, the 2015 is a strong pick. If your priority is comfort, space, and quiet, you should look elsewhere rather than forcing this car into a role it wasn’t built to fill.
