CarGurus Analysis: 2015 GMC Canyon

Summary
With 340 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,006.00, 27.1% of 2015 GMC Canyons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 GMC Canyon 5 / 5 stars.
65.3% of 2015 Canyon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 GMC Canyon stands out as a midsize pickup that leans more upscale than many shoppers might expect. It arrived for the 2015 model year with a more traditional, blocky look that echoed the full-sized GMC Sierra, and it was offered as either a four-passenger extended cab or a five-passenger crew cab. That combination of familiar truck styling and multiple cab-and-bed configurations gave it broad appeal, especially for buyers who wanted something smaller and easier to live with than a full-size pickup.
What makes the 2015 Canyon especially distinctive is how much it offered beyond basic utility. The lineup ranged from a work-truck-style base model to the more refined SLT, with features such as an eight-inch touchscreen, a wifi hotspot, leather seats, automatic climate control, and heated front seats available on higher trims. It also had a strong off-road side, with the available All-Terrain package adding all-terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension, a locking rear differential, hill descent control, and front recovery hooks. For buyers who wanted even more capability, the available Duramax turbo-diesel brought 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque and raised towing capacity to 7,700 lbs.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2015 Canyon’s fuel economy varied by engine and drivetrain, and the diesel was the mileage leader at 22/30 mpg city/highway and 25 mpg combined. Safety was respectable but not class-leading, with four out of five stars in overall and frontal crash protection from the NHTSA, five stars for side impacts, and three stars in rollover tests. Even so, the 2015 GMC Canyon remains appealing because it blends midsize maneuverability, a wide spread of trims and equipment, and a more premium feel than many rivals in the segment.

The SLT is very nice with most of the modern extras, electronics, Bose sound system, upholstery, etc. Handles more like a car than a truck. Not too huge, but not too small. Mileage is pretty much the same as the Jeep it replaced. After 2 weeks I have no complaints.

Is the 2015 GMC Canyon a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for the 2015 GMC Canyon.
The 2015 GMC Canyon stands out as a midsize pickup that leans more upscale than many shoppers might expect. It offers a broad mix of cab-and-bed configurations, from an extended cab to a crew cab, which makes it easier to match to your daily needs.
It also gives you more than basic utility, with higher trims offering features like an eight-inch touchscreen, a wifi hotspot, leather seats, automatic climate control, and heated front seats. For shoppers who want a smaller truck that still feels refined and flexible, that combination is a strong fit.
29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 GMC Canyon reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2015 GMC Canyon is described as respectable on safety, though not class-leading, and it offers a range of configurations and equipment that can suit different kinds of buyers. Its appeal comes from blending midsize maneuverability with a more premium feel than many rivals.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a truck with a rough history or neglected condition, so a careful pre-purchase check matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 GMC Canyon?
At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records and spot any title or ownership issues. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since condition can tell you a lot about how the truck was treated.
Focus especially on the truck’s overall maintenance and cosmetic condition, because a midsize pickup with a premium lean can still hide expensive problems if it was used hard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 GMC Canyon?
This is a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

What is the 2015 GMC Canyon's resale value?
The current average of $16,925 sits slightly below last year's $17,902.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable level, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter more because buyers will have plenty of alternatives to compare.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $18,275, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $16,925 average.
- It brought updates that helped keep the Canyon fresh and more competitive.
The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and a solid satisfaction signal, the 2015 is the better value-focused pick. If you're willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2016 is the better secondary path for shoppers who want to compare fresh inventory and updated features.
