Is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.58/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its great value, comfort, and performance, and many also highlight its reliable handling and stylish design. That lines up with the overview’s focus on a truck that feels familiar and practical, while still giving you a balanced mix of capability, efficiency, and style. For you, that means it fits especially well if you want a full-size pickup that can handle work duties without feeling overly specialized.

The market also shows 28.5% of listings as good or great deals, which is a useful sign that there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.58/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a truck that many drivers feel is reliable and dependable, with praise for its trouble-free feel in everyday use and confidence over the long haul. The expert evaluation also notes that Chevrolet’s Active Fuel Management helps deliver solid fuel economy without the kind of false promises sometimes associated with turbocharged alternatives. Chevrolet also includes free scheduled maintenance as part of its value proposition, which can help reduce early ownership costs.

That said, used buyers should still watch for the mechanical concerns mentioned by owners, especially if you plan to keep the truck for many years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks that have been used for towing, hauling, or off-road driving. Pay close attention to the transmission behavior, cooling system, and signs of heavy wear in the cabin and bed.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Silverado’s look ranges from work-truck simple to much more upscale, and the higher-end versions add premium materials, body-color trim, and more comfort-focused equipment. Base-trim trucks are the ones most likely to feel sparse, so compare cabin finish and convenience features carefully if you want a truck that feels more polished day to day.
• Powertrain: You can choose between the available 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8. The 6.2-liter adds power and towing strength, but it also costs more and uses more fuel, so it makes the most sense if you tow regularly.
• Safety package: The available Driver Alert Package adds lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, front and rear parking-assist sensors, and a safety-alert seat. A blind-spot warning system is not offered, so mirror visibility matters more than it does in some rivals.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink comes with either a 4.2-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, and the truck can be equipped with OnStar 4G LTE connectivity. Bluetooth pairing is straightforward, and the larger screen is the one to seek if you want the more modern setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites 16.1 mpg in testing, and the cost-effectiveness discussion references an EPA combined rating of 17 mpg. The 6.2-liter V8 also reduces fuel economy by a single mile per gallon compared with the 5.3-liter in the tested configuration.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: WT, LT, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes the most sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability without paying for extra luxury. It’s the trim to choose if you care most about utility and keeping the purchase price down.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more balanced mix of comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to luxury pricing. If you want a Silverado that feels more everyday-friendly, this is the one to target.
• LTZ: This trim brings a more upscale feel, and the test truck’s equipment shows how far you can push the Silverado toward comfort and convenience. It suits you if you want a truck that works hard but also feels well appointed.
• High Country: This is the most premium trim in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the most upscale Silverado experience. It makes sense if you want the highest-end cabin and are willing to pay for it.

The available Driver Alert Package adds useful safety tech, but the truck still does not offer blind-spot warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options and enough price softness to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,997 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,006, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $17,103 sits slightly below last year's $18,232.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to move a truck quickly. The Silverado’s broad appeal helps support demand, especially because it offers a familiar full-size pickup formula with strong capability and practical usability. If you buy well now and keep the truck in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to resale later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.58/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The Silverado crew cab earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA crash tests except rollover resistance, where it gets a four-star rating with both 2WD and 4WD. The IIHS gives it a Good rating in the moderate overlap frontal-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Driver Alert Package includes lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, front and rear parking-assist sensors, and a safety-alert seat that vibrates when it senses a threat. The truck also offers a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors, and OnStar adds Automatic Crash Response. One important limitation is that blind-spot warning is not available.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.58/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says the Silverado’s straightforward formula delivers a strong blend of capability, efficiency, and style.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $15,335, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $17,103 average.
• It emphasizes understated confidence and everyday usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2015 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Silverado’s practical, everyday truck appeal.
