What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW 4 Series?

At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of wear that don’t match the mileage. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment still works as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The coupe’s gorgeous looks and balanced chassis come standard, but the 4 Series can be optioned heavily, and some premium features are not included compared with other models.
• Powertrain: The 428i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 hp, while the 435i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 hp; both can be paired with AWD or RWD, and the six-cylinder delivers the more urgent, effortless feel.
• Safety package: BMW offers adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras as an enhanced safety suite, while standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, front, side, and knee airbags, daytime running lights, and Assist eCall.
• Infotainment: BMW’s ConnectedDrive system is straightforward, and the optional Technology Package adds a heads-up display; the system is not especially cutting-edge compared with rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: The 428i is rated at 23 mpg city/35 highway/27 combined, while the 435i is rated at 20/30/23 mpg.

Which 2015 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2015 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 428i and 435i.

Here's the short version:

• 428i: This is the better-value choice if you want the 4 Series experience without paying for the stronger six-cylinder. It delivers the car’s core appeal — sharp looks, balanced chassis behavior, and respectable efficiency — while keeping the price and running costs more manageable.
• 435i: Choose this if you want the more rewarding powertrain. The turbocharged inline-six gives the car a much more effortless, energetic character, and the expert summary says a maxed-out 4 Series can deliver a drive few cars can match.

BMW also offers an enhanced safety suite with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras for extra cost.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 861 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,422, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $13,576 sits slightly below last year's $13,831.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If you’re thinking about resale, condition and equipment matter a lot because well-kept examples should stand out more clearly in a market with plenty of inventory. A clean history and strong maintenance records should help protect value better than a neglected example.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 BMW 4 Series safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW includes standard safety equipment such as antilock brakes, front, side, and knee airbags, daytime running lights, and Assist eCall. It also offers an enhanced safety suite with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras for extra cost.

The safety writeup also notes that neither NHTSA nor IIHS had rated the 4 Series at the time, so you should lean more heavily on inspection quality and equipment verification when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2015 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 stands out for its stylish, driver-focused design and strong performance character.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $12,233, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $13,576 average.
• It’s a sporty daily driver that balances fun-to-drive appeal with everyday practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the sharper overall package and don’t mind paying a bit more, the 2015 is the better target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core BMW coupe appeal.
