Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Venza stands out for bringing more style and flair than most of Toyota’s other vehicles, especially in the crossover SUV segment. It also has a reputation for being roomy, comfortable, safe, and stylish, which makes it appealing to buyers who want a practical vehicle that still feels a little more distinctive than the average family hauler.
That appeal comes with a few tradeoffs. The 2014 Venza lacks modern safety technologies, and its cabin is described as inexpensively trimmed, so it does not feel as upscale as its outward design might suggest. Even so, it is presented as money well spent overall, and the optional V6 engine is singled out as the upgrade to choose.

Would buy again. - Our Venza was purchased on first sight. Our family unanimously loved the styling and practical, comfortable dimensions.(and rich color) It is the vehicle of choice for long trips or carrying bulky items. Toyota quality is evident in fit, finish, operation, dealer service, actually everything. This is our second Venza, our first, an '09 had a problem with the AWD which was resolved, although it made odd noises after the repair that reapperared periodically. Acceleration is brisk with the V6, but the 4 is adequate. The mileage is close, so we picked the reserve power the V6 provides. The 4 requires synthetic oil be warned. Handling is secure for a bulky vehicle, with very short stops with the 4 antilock disc brakes and low profile tires. The 20" alloy wheels give the Venza an aggressive look we like, just watch those curbs or the wheels will rash easily. The cabin is quiet and chock full of conveniences like dual climate control, auto dimming xenon headlamps, navigation with rear camera, bluetooth cell linking, heated seats, a huge console, and remote power tailgate. New for the limited, electrically folding mirrors and auto seat and steering make entry and exits easier. With all the safety features, great crash rating, airbags front and side, dual sunroofs, more legroom in back than front, reclining rear seats, this is a very passenger friendly vehicle. Now that the bugs have been worked out, we can recommend the Venza, and would purchase it again.

The earlier design of the Toyota Venza is a roomy, elegant vehicle. The Limited version has everything that you could want in your car. This is a sturdy, recognizable crossover that has loads of room for your luggage and drives quietly for long trips. Highly recommend it!

Has all the bells and whistles of top-of-the-line vehicles, plus Toyota ‘s legendary reputation to let you know it’s a quality performer. Smooth, graceful lines similar to the Lexus RX 350.

Is the 2014 Toyota Venza a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Toyota Venza earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and stylish design, and they also highlight its comfortable ride and rich features. That lines up with the Venza’s roomy, comfortable, and practical positioning, especially if you want a crossover that feels a little more distinctive than the average family hauler. The market also shows 30.5% good or great deals, which supports the case for value-minded shoppers.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, while also emphasizing that the Venza is a vehicle people can count on for spacious, comfortable travel. The expert review also describes it as a reliable vehicle and notes strong dependability from J.D. Power. Toyota’s free maintenance and roadside assistance for the first two years or 25,000 miles adds a useful ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history and no hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has been in an accident or shows signs of heavier use. Focus on body condition, wheel and tire wear, and any evidence of repair quality, since the Venza’s larger wheels and family-hauling role can make condition differences matter more than mileage alone.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE is the standard trim, while the XLE adds leather, Smart Key passive entry, navigation with advanced voice-recognition technology, Entune App Suite services, HD Radio, iTunes song-tagging capability, a reversing camera, a power tailgate, heated front seats, a 4-way power front passenger’s seat, and memory for the driver’s seat and mirror settings. The Limited adds a panoramic glass sunroof, a larger 7-inch high-resolution infotainment touchscreen, a premium JBL audio system, front and rear parking-assist sensors, automatic HID headlights with automatic high-beam operation, LED running lights, larger 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a standard V6 engine. The XLE is the best-value trim if you want a strong equipment jump without going all the way to Limited.
- Powertrain: The standard engine is a 181-hp, 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, and a more powerful 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 is available in LE and XLE trims and standard on Limited. The V6 adds 87 horsepower and 64 lb-ft of torque, and the fuel-economy penalty is only a single mpg.
- Safety package: The Venza comes standard with a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on LE and standard on XLE and Limited, while the Limited also adds front and rear parking-assist sensors. It does not include blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, or Safety Connect telematics.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen, while the Limited upgrades to a larger 7-inch high-resolution infotainment touchscreen. Smartphone pairing is easy enough, and navigation is included on higher trims.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive 4-cylinder averaged 25.7 mpg over more than 700 miles and is rated at 26 mpg on the highway. The V6 is also rated to get 26 mpg on the highway.
Which 2014 Toyota Venza trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Venza is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Venza’s core roomy, stylish character. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and plan to add only the options you truly need.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim because it adds the biggest everyday upgrades: leather, Smart Key, navigation, a reversing camera, heated front seats, and more convenience features without jumping to the top price tier.
- Limited: This is the fully loaded choice, with the panoramic sunroof, larger touchscreen, premium JBL audio, parking-assist sensors, and standard V6 power. Choose it if you want the most content and don’t mind paying for it.
The Limited is also the trim that gets the standard V6 engine and the extra parking-assist equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Venza?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.
- Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 233 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.44% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,650, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Venza's resale value?
The current average of $12,052 sits slightly below last year's $12,228.
That mild decline suggests the Venza is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. For a future seller, that means your best outcome will likely come from buying carefully now, keeping the vehicle in strong condition, and preserving service records so the next buyer sees a well-maintained example rather than just another used crossover.
Because the market has softened a bit, you may not get a dramatic resale windfall later, but a clean, well-equipped Venza should still remain appealing to shoppers who want space, comfort, and value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Venza safe?
The 2014 Venza earns five-star ratings from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The Venza comes standard with a driver’s knee airbag and blind-spot side-mirror designs. A reversing camera is optional on LE and standard on XLE and Limited, and the Limited also adds front and rear parking-assist sensors. It does not offer blind-spot information, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, or Safety Connect telematics.
A key caveat is that IIHS has not evaluated the Venza’s small-overlap frontal-impact crash protection levels, and the lack of modern crash-prevention technology is a notable weakness for a family vehicle.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Venza or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers roomy comfort, stylish design, and strong value, with the optional V6 singled out as the upgrade to choose.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,387, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,052 average.
- It adds a more appealing value equation, but still lacks the convenience, infotainment, and safety features many shoppers expect.
The bottom line: If you want the better bargain, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a decent supply of good deals. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly newer example, the 2015 can make sense, but only if the extra cost is worth it to you.
