Is the 2014 Toyota Camry reliable?

The review summary repeatedly points to reliability, dependability, and value, and it also describes the car as dependable for both commuting and traveling. The expert cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that it rates well in quality, dependability, and reliability studies, and that it’s inexpensive to own and operate.

You also get free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles of driving, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior wear, maintenance history, and accident history don’t undercut the Camry’s otherwise strong durability story.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Camry?

At 45.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or paint mismatch. Focus on condition and maintenance records, since the Camry’s appeal depends heavily on getting a clean, well-kept example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Camry L is the most stripped-down version, while the LE adds a fancier grille, automatic headlights, and remote keyless entry. The XLE adds fog lights, extra chrome trim, 17-inch aluminum wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated outside mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an Entune Audio Plus infotainment system. The SE brings a sport suspension, structural bracing, paddle shifters, unique wheels, a body kit, and a rear spoiler, but it also has a firmer ride and lacks Safety Connect.
• Powertrain: You can shop the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or the optional 3.5-liter V6. The 4-cylinder is rated at 28 mpg in combined driving, while the V6 is stronger and is rated at 25 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Blind-Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are available on the SE, XLE, and XLE Hybrid. Safety Connect is limited to the XLE and Hybrid XLE, and it adds Roadside Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, and a Stolen-Vehicle Locator.
• Infotainment: Entune is the main touchscreen system, and the LE can be optioned with Entune Audio Plus. The XLE includes Entune Audio Plus, while higher trims can add Entune premium audio, Entune App Suite, and navigation. The system is easy to use, though glare can be an issue.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry Hybrid is EPA-rated at about 40 mpg in combined driving. The standard SE’s 4-cylinder is rated at 28 mpg combined, and the V6 is rated at 25 mpg combined.

Which 2014 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Camry is offered in 7 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, Hybrid LE, Hybrid XLE, and SE Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the most basic Camry, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest-frills entry point and are comfortable with dealer-installed upgrades.
• LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades without pushing you into luxury pricing.
• XLE: Choose this if you want the most comfort-focused gas model, with more standard convenience and a more upscale feel.
• SE: Pick this if you want the sportier look and firmer chassis tuning, but be aware that the ride is much stiffer than other trims.
• Hybrid LE: This is the efficiency-focused pick if you want the hybrid powertrain with a practical feature set.
• Hybrid XLE: Choose this if you want the hybrid’s fuel savings plus the most upscale hybrid equipment.
• SE Hybrid: This gives you the SE appearance with hybrid efficiency, but it does not carry over the SE’s sport-tuned suspension.

Safety-wise, the 2014.5 model built after December 2013 is the one to target for the Top Safety Pick recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,497 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.68% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 45.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,344, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $11,990 sits slightly above last year's $11,791.

That modest increase suggests the Camry is holding value rather than slipping, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. The price trend also points to steady buyer interest, especially for a model year with a strong reputation for value and dependability.

Because the Camry is widely viewed as a practical, low-drama sedan, clean examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. A well-maintained car with strong records is likely to attract more attention than one with accident history or visible wear.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2014 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS for the 2014.5 model built after December 2013, and it earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota’s Safety Connect system adds Roadside Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, and a Stolen-Vehicle Locator, but it’s limited to the XLE and Hybrid XLE. Blind-Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are available on the SE, XLE, and XLE Hybrid.

One important caveat is that Camrys built before January 2014 were rated Poor in the small overlap frontal-impact test, so build date matters a lot here.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 45.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.68% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014.5 build adds a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,258, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,990 average.
• It adds more style, a nicer interior, and broader infotainment and safety tech.

The bottom line: If you want the lower-cost path into a dependable Camry, the 2014 makes sense, especially if you can find a clean 2014.5 build. If you’re willing to pay more for a fresher-feeling cabin and extra tech, the 2015 is the better upgrade path.
