How much does the 2014 Toyota 4Runner cost?

There are 650 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

The overview frames it as a traditional body-on-frame SUV that blends rugged capability with everyday usability, and the expert evaluation reinforces that it delivers true off-road strength without going all the way to the most extreme off-road territory. That makes it a strong fit if you want a durable SUV with a more traditional character and enough comfort for daily driving.

30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview emphasizes durability and ruggedness, while the expert evaluation describes it as a traditional SUV that persists because it serves buyers who want a tough, capable vehicle rather than a crossover-style compromise. The powertrain is straightforward and well matched to the vehicle’s mission, with a 4.0-liter V6 and a 5-speed automatic built for traditional SUV use.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to strong value retention, which usually aligns with a vehicle that has broad appeal among used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is that a truck-based SUV can bring more compromise in everyday comfort and efficiency than a crossover.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota 4Runner?

At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off pavement. Focus on signs of underbody wear, suspension abuse, and any evidence that the vehicle has been driven hard in rough conditions.

Key things to evaluate:

• Powertrain: A 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque is paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is available on the SR5, 4-wheel drive is available on the SR5 and standard on the Trail, and the Limited uses full-time 4-wheel drive with Active Traction Control.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, antilock brakes with Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology, plus front and side impact airbags, side impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines true off-road capability with comfortable daily driving.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $21,686, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $20,417 average.
• It adds a stronger hard-core off-road focus and more cargo-friendly utility.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and inventory is solid. If your priority is a newer model with a sharper off-road emphasis and you are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the alternative to compare.
