Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Nissan Altima 3.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Altima stands out as a midsize family sedan that prioritizes the basics buyers care about most. It is described as safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, which gives it broad appeal for shoppers who want an easygoing daily driver rather than something especially engaging. At the same time, it is noted that the car is not particularly fun to drive, so its strengths are more about practicality than excitement.
There are also signs that the Altima could use additional refinement, which keeps it from feeling fully polished. Even so, its combination of comfort, efficiency, and value helps explain why it earns a place among America’s best-selling models. Owners also praise its stylish interior and sound system, while some report repair needs that contribute to mixed feelings about reliability.

I have owned many cars in the past including last a 2010 Acura TL. After renting a Nissan Altima and driving it round trip over 1200 miles for a trip I was sold and got rid of my Acura and brought the 2014 Nissan Altima S with the Sport Value Package. I absolutely love the gas mileage I get from it I easily go all highway driving over 600 miles before needing gas and the features are great for me not too many not too few features. I think it has a great ride and looks impressive. I get lots of comments on it and so far after purchasing it in mid September I have only had oil changes necessary and anticipate no problems in the future.

This is a very comfortable car—more comfortable and more fun to drive than a Toyota Camry. This is a good car for commuters because of the comfort and the fuel efficiency. I also own a 2010 Nissan Altima, and I have had that one for 5.5 years. It has 130,000 miles on it, and I have never had mechanical problems with it. On paper, the Camry and accord look like more reliable cars than the Altima, but the used Altimas really are much more affordable, more comfortable, and (as I said) I certainly have not had reliability issues with Altima so far.

| Year-Round Low | $7,606 |
| Year-Round High | $8,259 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $8,259 |

There are 1,416 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima a good car?
It is a solid pick if you want a practical midsize sedan, with a user rating of 3.83/5 and an expert rating of 7.83/10.
The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners most often praise its comfort, stylish interior, and fuel efficiency, and the sound system also gets strong marks. The Altima’s overview also frames it as a safe, comfortable, and affordable daily driver, which fits well if you want an easygoing commuter rather than something especially engaging.
Only 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market has some value opportunities but still rewards careful comparison.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima reliable?
The 2014 Altima is presented as a cost-conscious sedan with mixed reliability signals, so you should approach it as a practical used buy that still deserves careful vetting.
Owner feedback includes language about repairs, while the broader summary points to a car that some owners have found dependable enough for commuting and long-term use. The expert cost-effectiveness notes also say it should deliver better-than-average dependability over time, even though other reliability commentary is less optimistic.
The ownership picture suggests you can do well with a clean, well-maintained example, but repair history and condition matter a lot on this model.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?
At 48.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on signs of uneven wear, repair quality, and whether the car’s comfort and electronics still feel sorted in daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 2.5 trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features such as cruise control, a power driver’s seat, more speakers, passive entry, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, leather seating, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a CVT, while the 3.5 trims use a 3.5-liter V6 with quicker acceleration and paddle shifters.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims.
- Infotainment: Most versions use NissanConnect Apps with a 5-inch touchscreen, while the navigation system brings a larger 7-inch display.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 returns 31 mpg in combined driving, while the 3.5 returns 25 mpg.
Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?
The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.
Here's the short version:
- 2.5 S: This is the entry point if you want the Altima’s core value without paying for extras, and it adds useful everyday equipment like cruise control, a power driver’s seat, extra speakers, and passive entry.
- 2.5 SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the most useful comfort and convenience upgrades, including dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, NissanConnect Apps, and remote engine start.
- 2.5 SL: Choose this if you want the most upscale 4-cylinder version, with leather seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the Bose audio system.
- 3.5 S: Pick this if you want the V6’s stronger acceleration and paddle shifters, and you’re willing to give up some fuel economy.
- 3.5 SV: This adds more convenience and appearance upgrades on top of the V6 setup, including a power sunroof and fog lights.
- 3.5 SL: This is the top-end V6 trim, adding high-intensity discharge headlights to the already well-equipped SL package.
The Technology Package is available on SV and SL trims, and it adds navigation plus blind-spot, lane-departure, and moving-object alerts.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $7,606 sits slightly below last year's $8,259.
That price movement suggests the Altima has become more affordable for buyers, which can also mean a softer resale position for future sellers. If you own one, you may not see strong appreciation, but a clean, well-kept example should still be easier to move than a neglected one. For you as a shopper, the current pricing makes this a more approachable used-car purchase than it was a year ago.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?
The 2014 Altima earns a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The available Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Those features can help, but the blind-spot system is described as less intuitive than it should be, so you should not rely on it as a substitute for careful lane checks.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 24.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.92% compared with last year.
- It offers a practical, comfortable, and affordable family-sedan formula with strong fuel economy.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $8,317, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,606 average.
- It adds more responsive handling and a more engaging overall driving feel.
The bottom line: If you want the lower price and a straightforward commuter sedan, the 2014 is the better value path. If you’re willing to pay more for a more engaging drive, the 2015 is the better alternative.
