Overview

The MAZDA6 has long impressed, and at the same time baffled, reviewers in the automobile world. They rave about the car’s fun factor when it comes to zipping through the countryside and its performance overall and love its sporty and somewhat sassy style for the midsize sedan class. They write about how solid it feels.
What they struggle with is why the MAZDA6, also appreciated by those who drive it, has not caught on more with consumers in what is admittedly a very competitive field crowded with the likes of the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Altima.
They fully expect the 2014 MAZDA6, new and even better on several fronts, to push the agenda even further. Yes, Zoom Zoom lives, perhaps even thrives, they figure. Experts love the updated sleek and refined look of the MAZDA6’s exterior: One talked about its “sensuous curves” and “elegant” front grille and labeled it “striking,” all within the course of a few sentences. Another cited its “knockout” good looks.
There’s much to like about the 2014 MAZDA6, of that there is no doubt.
A new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with the automaker’s SkyActiv technology powers the 2014 MAZDA6. It has direct injection and variable valve control and is good for 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Mazda plans to add a 2.2-liter diesel engine to the lineup shortly.
The 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 comes in three trims: the base i Sport, i Touring and i Grand Touring. All are front-wheel drive (FWD), and all team up with one of two new transmissions, a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The manual features short, precise throws, and reviewers like the smooth and crisp way the automatic performs as well.
The MAZDA6 may not be a sports car, the experts note, but it does a nice job of imitating one.
Mazda’s SkyActiv approach led to making the engines, transmission, bodies and chassis of the 2014 MAZDA6 lighter and more efficient and sliced more than 200 pounds off the car in the process. All the changes have helped boost estimated fuel mileage to 26 mpg city/38 highway.
One of the reasons the MAZDA6 has had trouble gaining ground on the competition is that its rivals have gone through upgrades in recent years, too. And while reviewers say mostly positive things about the 2014 MAZDA6, they also note that it doesn’t keep up quite as well when it comes to the interior. Its TomTom navigation system in particular takes a hit from some experts. But they do appreciate the comfortable seats and the legroom for backseat passengers.
Clearly, the experts are fans of the 2014 MAZDA6 overall, starting with the base i Sport. The manual i Sport features power windows and locks, air conditioning, cruise control and USB audio input and comfortable cloth upholstery. The automatic transmission version of the i Sport adds Bluetoooth and a rear-view camera system.
The i Touring models come with a power driver’s seat, leatherette seats, dual-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat and blind-spot monitoring. The top-of the-line i Grand Touring version gets leather upholstery and heated front seats, memory for driver’s settings, fog lamps, satellite radio and more.
An i Touring Technology package features a Smart City Brake Support system, Bose sound system, heated mirrors and upgraded keyless entry. An Advanced package offers radar cruise control, a forward obstruction warning system and fuel-saving i-Eloop regenerative braking technology.
The Mazda MAZDA6 consistently rates as one of the safest vehicles on the market and includes a full set of airbags, stability control and 4-wheel disc brakes with brake assist. A lane-departure warning system and a blind-spot monitoring system are among the other safety highlights available.

How much does the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,532 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,594.18 |
| Year-Round High | $10,518.04 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,383 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.44% |
Prices are up 1.44% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 271 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $9,594.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 earns a 4.64/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, smooth ride, and comfortable interior. Many also like the attractive features and decent fuel economy, which makes it appealing if you want a sedan that feels a bit more polished than average.
With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car people feel good about living with over time, especially for its smooth driving experience and comfortable cabin. That kind of repeat-positive feedback matters when you want a used car you can count on.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure a specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks promising. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s overall wear matches its mileage and asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA6?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a standout bargain.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 271 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.44% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 48.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,594.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $10,532 sits slightly above last year's $10,383.
That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A stable-to-rising price trend can help protect your value, especially if you buy at the lower end of the range and keep the car in strong condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.44% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,540, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,532 average.
- It adds a more upscale look and remains fun to drive.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and a more polished feel, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
