What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, repairs, and any signs of prior damage. It also makes sense to focus on condition-related items that matter most in daily use, especially if you want to avoid surprises after purchase.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Touring trim adds aluminum wheels, heated side mirrors, keyless passive entry with push-button start, a Rear Cross Traffic Alert system, a Blind Spot Monitoring system, and nicer trim inside and out. It also unlocks many optional upgrades, including dual-zone automatic climate control, a power sunroof, a reversing camera, a navigation system, and a Bose premium Surround Sound audio system with HD Radio and Mazda Connect smartphone integration. The Grand Touring models add leatherette upholstery, a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats.
• Powertrain: The more affordable models use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful 2.5-liter 4-cylinder in the higher-performance models makes 184 hp and comes with a 6-speed automatic, paddle shifters, and a Sport driving mode.
• Safety package: The Touring trim includes Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The Grand Touring models add a reversing camera and E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service, while Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support are reserved for the highest trim.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen display paired with a rotary controller, and it includes smartphone integration, text-messaging capability, E911 service, and access to Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher Internet radio. It also supplies mobile Wi-Fi access.
• Fuel efficiency: The review says the sedan is rated to get between 32 and 34 mpg in combined driving, while the 5-Door is expected to return between 31 and 33 mpg. It also notes that owners should be able to easily extract better than 30 mpg.

Which 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 4 trim levels: SV, Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• SV: This is the most basic path into the car, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way to get the Mazda 3’s core driving character and design.
• Sport: This is the value-oriented choice if you want a straightforward setup without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim because it adds key convenience and safety upgrades like Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and keyless passive entry with push-button start.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale version, with leatherette upholstery, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and the most advanced safety and tech options.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the most advanced driver-assistance features, including Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support, are reserved for the highest trim.

What is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $9,944 sits slightly below last year's $10,237.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you plan to sell later because it may keep demand accessible to more shoppers. The current range also shows that values are still holding within a fairly tight band, which is a sign of relative stability rather than a sharp drop.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a reversing camera, E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service, rain-sensing wipers, an Adaptive Front Lighting System, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart City Brake Support. The most advanced features are not spread across the lineup, so you’ll want to check trim carefully if safety tech matters to you.

Should I buy a 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its redesigned look and unusually broad mix of body styles, powertrains, and equipment choices.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,114, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,944 average.
• It feels more upscale and is described as a strong all-around package with refinement, practicality, safety ratings, and reliability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the more affordable path and still delivers the core Mazda 3 strengths. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling package, the 2015 is the better secondary option.

How does the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 compare to the 2014 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 8.8/10 and the 2014 Honda Civic 8.2/10.

The Mazda gives you the stronger overall package here, with a lower average used price, better fuel economy, and a more engaging driving character. The Civic counters with more listings and a slightly higher good-and-great deal share, but the Mazda’s stronger expert score and better accident-free share make it the more compelling pick if you care most about value and driving enjoyment.
