Why it stands out
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ stands out as a premium sedan with a split personality. Properly equipped, it can transform from a mild-mannered commuter into something far more exciting, and it is described as capable of being a blast to drive. That combination gives it a distinctive appeal for buyers who want a luxury sedan that is not limited to comfort alone.
At the same time, the MKZ is not presented as an easy car to overlook in a crowded segment. Its many idiosyncrasies may make it difficult to make an impact in a highly competitive market, which suggests that its character is part of both its charm and its challenge. Even so, the 2014 Lincoln MKZ offers a compelling mix of sporty driving potential and premium-sedan presence.

How much does the 2014 Lincoln MKZ cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $8,986 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,546.70 |
| Year-Round High | $9,701.50 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,680 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.17% |
Prices have softened 7.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 192 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $8,546.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Lincoln MKZ earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and excellent features, with especially strong feedback on the spacious interior and trunk. The review summary also points to luxurious touches and a smooth driving experience, including the AWD setup.
That fits the MKZ’s role as a premium sedan with a split personality: it can be a calm commuter, but it also has enough character to be genuinely fun when properly equipped. If you want a luxury sedan that leans beyond comfort alone, this one has a clear appeal.
22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to reliability and trouble-free ownership themes, along with comfort and strong feature content. The expert notes also describe it as more reliable than your average luxury car, which supports the idea that it can be a sensible long-term pick if you buy the right example.
The ownership picture is still mixed on costs, though, because the expert review also flags higher ownership expense and faster-than-average depreciation. For used buyers, that means condition and maintenance history matter a lot if you want to keep long-term risk under control.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Lincoln MKZ?
At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of inconsistent wear. Focus on body condition, electronics, and how the car drives, since the MKZ’s appeal depends heavily on equipment and overall presentation.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard MKZ comes with leather, dual-zone climate controls, 10-way power heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen display, 18-inch wheels, and adaptive suspension. Higher trims add a rear-view camera, parking sensors, navigation, a power-operated trunk, ventilated front seats, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, a 14-speaker audio system, adaptive cruise control, collision-warning-and-mitigation, lane-departure warning, and automated parallel parking. The base setup leaves out several convenience and driver-assistance features.
- Powertrain: The MKZ is offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, a 300-hp 3.7-liter V6, or a gas-electric hybrid powertrain that should average 38 mpg. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available with the turbo and V6 engines.
- Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with active braking. Some features require moving up from the base trim, so check carefully before you assume a used example has them.
- Infotainment: The MKZ uses an 8-inch touchscreen display, and the interface is touch-sensitive. The system can be slow to respond at times, so make sure it works smoothly during your test drive.
- Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost AWD test car was rated at about 22 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined. The hybrid powertrain should average 38 mpg.
Which 2014 Lincoln MKZ trim should I buy?
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ is offered in 2 trim levels: MKZ, MKZ Hybrid.
Here's the short version:
- MKZ: This is the trim to target if you want the core MKZ experience at the lowest entry point. It already brings leather, heated power front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen, 18-inch wheels, and adaptive suspension, so it gives you the main luxury-sedan basics without forcing you into the higher-priced packages.
- MKZ Hybrid: Choose this if fuel economy matters most and you want the hybrid powertrain that should average 38 mpg. It makes the most sense for shoppers who value efficiency over the turbocharged or V6 performance focus.
The safety-package content makes it clear that several important driver-assistance features are reserved for higher equipment levels, so check carefully for the exact package content on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Lincoln MKZ?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 192 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,546.70, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ's resale value?
The current average of $8,986 sits slightly below last year's $9,680.
That kind of price movement suggests the MKZ has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help a future seller if you buy at the right price. It also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, since buyers in this segment tend to be selective.
Because the market has softened, you may not see rapid appreciation, but a well-kept example can still hold appeal if it has the right features and a clean history. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Lincoln MKZ safe?
The 2014 Lincoln MKZ earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also receives three-star ratings for driver-side side-impact protection.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The available safety suite includes a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with active braking. Some of those features require moving up from the base trim, so you should verify the exact package content on any used example.
That mix makes the MKZ a strong safety performer overall, but the lower side-impact result is worth keeping in mind if you are comparing it against other luxury sedans.
Should I buy a 2014 Lincoln MKZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.17% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It’s been awhile since Lincoln made an impression with a sporty premium sedan, and this year’s MKZ can be a blast to drive when properly equipped.
The bottom line: If you want a used luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction, a distinctive personality, and a market that has softened enough to create some buying opportunities, the 2014 MKZ is worth a close look. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on clean, well-documented examples and be ready to move quickly when you find one with the right equipment and a history you trust.
