What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Soul?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of cosmetic repair, since owner feedback mentions minor dents and similar issues. It also makes sense to confirm that the car’s features and equipment match the trim being advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes a multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, and USB/auxiliary audio inputs, while the Plus adds mirror-mounted LED turn signals, remote keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Exclaim adds 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox, so the base trim is the one to scrutinize most closely if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The base trim uses a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder with 130 hp, while the Plus and Exclaim use a 2.0-liter inline 4 with 164 hp. The smaller engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, and the larger engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, side impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones. Uprated models add a backup camera.
• Infotainment: All trims come with USB/auxiliary jacks, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and a 6-speaker audio system with A-pillar-mounted tweeters. The available system centers on an 8-inch touchscreen and includes voice-command navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 1.6-liter engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 2.0-liter engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.

Which 2014 Kia Soul trim should I buy?

The 2014 Kia Soul is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Plus (+), and Exclaim (!).

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value play if you want the Soul’s core personality and standard tech without stretching your budget. You still get Bluetooth, SiriusXM, USB/aux inputs, and the standard safety equipment, so it makes the strongest case for shoppers who care most about price and everyday usefulness.
• Plus (+): This trim adds mirror-mounted LED turn signals, remote keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels, making it a sensible step up if you want a little more convenience and style. It’s the middle-ground choice if you want more equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Exclaim (!): This is the most feature-rich version, with 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox. It suits you best if you want the most complete Soul experience and are willing to pay more for the extras.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the backup camera is reserved for uprated models.

• Prices have softened 2.95% compared with last year.
