CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
overall

Summary
With 230 currently listed for sale near Toledo, OH and an average price of $9,512, 26.5% of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
50.9% of 2014 Grand Cherokee models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with a level of everyday usefulness that many SUV shoppers might not expect. Jeep describes it as more than a boulder-bashing lifestyle vehicle, and says it is a more useful tool for daily living than many buyers assume. At the same time, it still wears its Trail Rated badge and is presented as just as unstoppable off-road as almost anything else rolling off an assembly line.
What makes this version especially appealing is the way Jeep frames it as a major step forward in refinement without giving up capability. The company says it made significant progress in improving daily drivability while preserving ultimate off-roading ability, and calls it the most refined and capable Grand Cherokee yet. Owner feedback supports that broad appeal, with praise for the spacious interior, luxurious features, comfortable ride, and high-tech options. Some buyers, though, have noted reliability concerns and expensive repairs associated with certain features, and others have been frustrated by needing specific trim levels to get the capabilities they want.

Its a great looking and driving vehicle. I wish they made the third row in this model. However I always feel like the center of attention when driving a jeep that has that sleek, classic, luxury feel and vibe but also can be rugged and tough, and able to run with boss hogs whether on a trail or the open road. Its great for travel and great for inclement weather. What other car does what the Jeep Grand Cherokee does then or now? Not a one. Because Jeep is a stand alone Grand type of ride!

It’s very spacious and very light at the wheel. As you drive the car it feels like you’re floating and at peace. In my opinion the car lacks nothing and that was my first time driving a jeep and I highly recommend!!!!

The summit is the luxury model and the trim is too notch with a 5.7 hemi to go along with it . The only issues would be the air suspension has problems so get a warranty.

How much does the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,641 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,640 |
| Year-Round High | $11,629 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,630 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.50% |
Prices have softened 8.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,719 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 4.74/5 user rating and 7.5/10 expert rating both point to a well-liked SUV. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, luxurious features, comfortable ride, and high-tech options. That lines up with the Grand Cherokee’s role as a capable SUV that still works well for daily driving, especially if you want utility without giving up refinement.
The market also shows 30.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in everyday use, with praise for its comfortable ride, strong power, and high-tech features. At the same time, some owners mention reliability concerns and expensive repairs, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and any costly feature-related issues.
Jeep also says the Grand Cherokee includes over 70 safety- and security-related features, and the available maintenance-friendly pricing and financing support can help offset ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that repair bills can be uneven if the previous owner skipped upkeep or chose more complex equipment.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on signs of wear in the suspension, electronics, and any features that could be expensive to repair. If you want a Grand Cherokee for daily use, make sure the specific example you’re considering feels tight, quiet, and well maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Jeep serves the Grand Cherokee in five flavors: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT. The lineup moves from more basic equipment to increasingly luxurious content, and the base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more features.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 with a new 8-speed automatic transmission designed to improve fuel economy. The available diesel V6 and V8 powertrains broaden the range, but the V6 is the efficiency-minded choice.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance tech includes Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection, Trailer Sway Control, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, run-flat tires, and Call 9-1-1 services. Some of these features depend on trim level.
- Infotainment: The optional Uconnect Access system uses an 8.4-inch color touchscreen and adds mobile Wi-Fi access, Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free text messaging, and Emergency Call/9-1-1 service. It is described as easy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The Grand Cherokee returned 18.8 mpg in mixed driving and carries an EPA combined rating of 19 mpg. Jeep also says the new transmission helps improve fuel economy.
Which 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability at the lowest price, but it is also the trim most likely to feel light on luxury and convenience features.
- Limited: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale cabin and the kind of equipment that makes the Grand Cherokee feel properly refined for daily use.
- Overland: Choose this if you want a more premium feel and more of the luxury-oriented content that helps the Grand Cherokee stand apart from ordinary SUVs.
- Summit: This is the luxury-focused pick, aimed at buyers who want the most upscale version of the Grand Cherokee lineup.
- SRT: This is the performance-oriented model, built for pavement performance rather than the everyday balance of the other trims.
The safety content also notes that some features depend on trim level, so it is worth comparing equipment carefully before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what to look for.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,719 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,640, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $10,641 sits slightly below last year's $11,630.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, the softer pricing means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, but the broader trend points to a market that is not rewarding sellers as strongly as it did a year ago.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an overall rating of four stars from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it the highest rating of Good in 4 of its 5 evaluations.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep says the Grand Cherokee comes with over 70 safety- and security-related features, including standard rain-brake support, ready-alert braking, and a driver knee airbag. The available Forward Collision Warning system with Crash Mitigation is part of the Advanced Technology Group, which also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection. Some of these features depend on trim level.
One caveat is that the Grand Cherokee had not been evaluated in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test at the time of the review. NHTSA also rates rollover resistance at 3 stars for 2WD models and 4 stars for 4WD models.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.50% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 brings major refinement gains while preserving serious off-road capability.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,721, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,641 average.
- It offers a wider range of trims and engines to fit more budgets.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and the model still delivers the core Grand Cherokee mix of capability and comfort. If you want more configuration flexibility and are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the better alternative.
