Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with a level of everyday usefulness that many SUV buyers might not expect. Jeep describes it as more than a pure trail machine, noting that it is a more useful tool for daily living than many SUV buyers might assume. At the same time, it still proudly wears its Trail Rated badge, reinforcing that its capability is not just for show.
What makes this Grand Cherokee especially appealing is the way Jeep says it has improved daily drivability without reducing its ultimate off-roading capability. The result is a vehicle that aims to be both practical and adventurous, rather than forcing buyers to choose one or the other. Jeep also calls it the most refined and capable Grand Cherokee yet, which helps explain why it has such broad appeal.
Owner feedback lines up with that character, with drivers praising the spacious interior, luxurious features, impressive power, and comfortable ride. High-tech options are another commonly appreciated trait. The main drawbacks mentioned are reliability concerns, expensive repairs tied to certain features, and the frustration of needing specific trim levels to get desired capabilities.

Its a great looking and driving vehicle. I wish they made the third row in this model. However I always feel like the center of attention when driving a jeep that has that sleek, classic, luxury feel and vibe but also can be rugged and tough, and able to run with boss hogs whether on a trail or the open road. Its great for travel and great for inclement weather. What other car does what the Jeep Grand Cherokee does then or now? Not a one. Because Jeep is a stand alone Grand type of ride!

It’s very spacious and very light at the wheel. As you drive the car it feels like you’re floating and at peace. In my opinion the car lacks nothing and that was my first time driving a jeep and I highly recommend!!!!

The summit is the luxury model and the trim is too notch with a 5.7 hemi to go along with it . The only issues would be the air suspension has problems so get a warranty.

How much does the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,721 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,699.59 |
| Year-Round High | $11,633.85 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,609 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.65% |
Prices have softened 7.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 2,764 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $10,699.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 4.74/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, luxurious features, impressive power, comfortable ride, and high-tech options. That lines up well with the Grand Cherokee’s role as a vehicle that aims to be both practical and adventurous, rather than forcing you to choose one or the other.
With its broad appeal as a daily-use SUV that still keeps serious capability, it makes sense if you want comfort and utility in the same package. 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on the SUV’s comfortable ride, strong power, and features that make it easy to live with over time. At the same time, some owners mention reliability concerns and expensive repairs tied to certain features, which is a reminder that long-term ownership can vary by trim and equipment.
The expert review also notes average predicted reliability and warns that depreciation and dependability are part of the ownership equation. Jeep’s maintenance-friendly pitch is helped by the fact that the model’s fuel economy improves with the 8-speed automatic, but you should still budget carefully for repairs on a used example.
For used buyers, the main risk is buying a poorly maintained or heavily optioned truck without a clear service history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing includes off-road hardware or advanced driver-assistance features. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the truck matches the trim level and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Jeep says the Grand Cherokee comes in five flavors: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT. The base setup is more straightforward, while higher trims add more luxury and technology, and the SRT is the pavement-performance model.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 paired with a new 8-speed automatic, and Jeep also offers a clean-diesel V6 plus available V8 powertrains. The review notes that the transmission helps improve fuel economy, while the diesel and V8 choices change the ownership and driving experience.
- Safety package: The available Advanced Technology Group includes Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection, and Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation. Some features are trim dependent, so verify exactly what the truck has.
- Infotainment: Uconnect Access uses an 8.4-inch color touchscreen with simple menus, crisp graphics, improved voice recognition, mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free text messaging, and Emergency Call/9-1-1 service. It is described as easy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The mixed-driving test average came out to 18.8 mpg, and the EPA combined rating is 19 mpg. Jeep also notes that the available V8 powertrains are less conservative with fuel than the standard V6.
Which 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and everyday usefulness without paying for extra luxury content. It makes the most sense if you care more about value and the basic SUV mission than premium features.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale cabin feel and the kind of equipment that makes the Grand Cherokee easier to live with every day. It is the trim that best balances comfort, capability, and price.
- Overland: Choose this if you want a more luxurious feel and more of the premium character that helps the Grand Cherokee stand out from ordinary SUVs. It suits you if comfort and features matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
- Summit: This is the luxury-focused choice, and Jeep says it debuts as a new luxury-themed trim for 2014. Buy it if you want the most upscale version of the standard Grand Cherokee lineup.
- SRT: This is the performance-oriented model built for pavement, with revised Track Mode programming, Launch Control, and improved towing capacity. It is the right pick if you want the most aggressive on-road character rather than the broadest all-around value.
Jeep also notes that some safety and convenience features depend on trim level, so check the equipment list carefully before you buy.

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,764 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,699.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $10,721 sits slightly below last year's $11,609.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some of the model’s depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost gives you more room to absorb normal wear before resale becomes a concern.
The flip side is that buyers are still price-sensitive, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when you go to sell. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold attention better than neglected trucks with unclear histories.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?
The Grand Cherokee receives an overall rating of four stars from NHTSA, and the IIHS gives it the highest rating of Good in 4 of its 5 evaluations.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep says the Grand Cherokee is offered with over 70 safety- and security-related features, including standard rain-brake support, ready-alert braking, and a driver knee airbag. The optional Advanced Technology Group adds Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection, and Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation.
One caveat is that rollover resistance varies by drivetrain, with three-star ratings for 2WD models and four-star ratings for 4WD models. The IIHS also had not yet evaluated the vehicle in the small overlap frontal-impact test at the time of the review.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 25.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 brings a more refined cabin, an 8-speed automatic, and available Uconnect Access plus new safety tech.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,796, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,721 average.
- It offers a broader spread of trims and engines for more customization.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you want more configuration flexibility and are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the better alternative.
