CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
overall

Summary
With 192 currently listed for sale near Birmingham, AL and an average price of $9,534.00, 29.7% of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
58.3% of 2014 Grand Cherokee models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with a level of everyday usefulness that many SUV buyers might not expect. Jeep describes it as more than a pure trail machine, noting that it is a more useful tool for daily living than many SUV buyers might assume. At the same time, it still proudly wears its Trail Rated badge, reinforcing that its capability is not just for show.
What makes this Grand Cherokee especially appealing is the way Jeep says it has improved daily drivability without reducing its ultimate off-roading capability. The result is a vehicle that aims to be both practical and adventurous, rather than forcing buyers to choose one or the other. Jeep also calls it the most refined and capable Grand Cherokee yet, which helps explain why it has such broad appeal.
Owner feedback lines up with that character, with drivers praising the spacious interior, luxurious features, impressive power, and comfortable ride. High-tech options are another commonly appreciated trait. The main drawbacks mentioned are reliability concerns, expensive repairs tied to certain features, and the frustration of needing specific trim levels to get desired capabilities.

Its a great looking and driving vehicle. I wish they made the third row in this model. However I always feel like the center of attention when driving a jeep that has that sleek, classic, luxury feel and vibe but also can be rugged and tough, and able to run with boss hogs whether on a trail or the open road. Its great for travel and great for inclement weather. What other car does what the Jeep Grand Cherokee does then or now? Not a one. Because Jeep is a stand alone Grand type of ride!

It’s very spacious and very light at the wheel. As you drive the car it feels like you’re floating and at peace. In my opinion the car lacks nothing and that was my first time driving a jeep and I highly recommend!!!!

The summit is the luxury model and the trim is too notch with a 5.7 hemi to go along with it . The only issues would be the air suspension has problems so get a warranty.

| Year-Round Low | $10,671.13 |
| Year-Round High | $11,635.86 |

There are 2,757 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $10,671.13, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.74/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise the spacious interior, luxurious features, impressive power, comfortable ride, and high-tech options. The overview also points to a vehicle that balances serious off-road ability with everyday usefulness, so you get a broad-use SUV rather than a one-note trail rig.
The model’s 29.0% good or great deal rate suggests there are still attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers’ feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience built around the spacious cabin, comfortable ride, and impressive power, while also noting that some versions are especially appreciated for their trouble-free character. The expert review also describes it as a useful daily driver that has made significant progress in everyday drivability without giving up its off-road capability.
Jeep’s own materials also emphasize a broad set of safety and security features, which can add confidence in day-to-day use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that reliability concerns and expensive repairs tied to certain features can make condition and maintenance history especially important.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing includes off-road hardware or advanced tech features. Focus on signs of wear, repair quality, and whether the vehicle’s equipment still works as intended, since some owners have flagged expensive repairs tied to certain features.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Jeep says the Grand Cherokee comes in five flavors: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT. The base setup is less richly equipped than the higher trims, while the Summit adds a luxury focus and the SRT is built for pavement performance.
- Powertrain: The standard 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 pairs with a new 8-speed automatic designed to improve fuel economy. Jeep also offers a clean-diesel V6, and the available V8 powertrains are less conservative with fuel.
- Safety package: Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation is part of the optional Advanced Technology Group, which also includes Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection. Some features are trim-dependent.
- Infotainment: Uconnect Access uses an 8.4-inch color touchscreen with simple menus, crisp graphics, improved voice recognition, mobile Wi-Fi access, Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free text messaging, and Emergency Call/9-1-1 service.
- Fuel efficiency: The review cites a 19 mpg combined driving rating from the EPA and a mixed-driving test average of 18.8 mpg.
Which 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and daily usefulness without paying for the richer luxury and tech content found higher up.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more upscale cabin feel and is the trim level highlighted in the review with Uconnect Access and available off-road hardware.
- Overland: Choose this if you want a more premium-feeling Grand Cherokee and expect to spend more time appreciating comfort and refinement.
- Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, and Jeep says it debuts as a new luxury-themed trim for 2014.
- SRT: Pick this only if you want the pavement-focused performance character; Jeep describes it as the performance-oriented model with track-ready tuning.
For safety equipment, Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation is part of the optional Advanced Technology Group, and availability can vary by trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make patience worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,757 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,671.13, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $10,671 sits slightly below last year's $11,636.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you pay close to the current average and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, and condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?
It earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, and rollover resistance rates three-star for the 2WD models and four-star for the 4WD models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it the highest rating of Good in 4 of its 5 evaluations.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep says the Grand Cherokee offers over 70 safety- and security-related features, including standard rain-brake support, ready-alert braking, and a driver knee airbag. The optional Advanced Technology Group adds Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection.
One caveat worth noting is that the Grand Cherokee had not been evaluated in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test at the time of the review.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 brings major tech upgrades, including an 8.4-inch Uconnect Access touchscreen and new safety features.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,723, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,671 average.
- It offers a broader range of trims and engines.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and the model still delivers strong capability, comfort, and tech. If you’re willing to spend more for broader configuration choices, the 2015 is the better path for shoppers who want more flexibility.
