CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Hyundai Veloster

Summary
With 257 currently listed for sale and an average price of $7,091, 27.6% of 2014 Hyundai Velosters for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Hyundai Veloster 5 / 5 stars.
58.4% of 2014 Veloster models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Hyundai Veloster stands out because it blends hatchback practicality with an unusual three-door layout. Hyundai gave it one door on the driver’s side and two on the passenger side, and the car’s hatchback body provided generous cargo space. That combination made it a distinctive choice for buyers who wanted something more interesting than a conventional compact car.
For 2014, Hyundai added the Turbo R-Spec trim with a short-throw shifter, red interior, and enhanced suspension. The base version also gained a rearview camera, a driver’s blind-spot mirror, and daytime running lights that year. Those updates helped the Veloster feel more appealing to drivers who wanted a small car with a sporty edge and some useful everyday features.
Even so, the Veloster’s appeal was not just about style. It was a front-wheel-drive hatchback with a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine, and it offered a six-speed automatic manual transmission as well as a six-speed dual-clutch automatic with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. EPA-rated highway fuel economy was 37 mpg. Its limitations were part of the package too: the three-door design was polarizing, and the car only seated four.

This car has a smooth ride with decent mileage for a used car. The car has good value and is only missing a sunroof. I would compare this model to a racecar

It makes a perfect daily for anyone who is looking for a middle of the road car. It's got good millage, good power and many features including a leather interior and heated seats for a fairly cheap price. The only downside is paying for the hospital bills of all the peoples necks you will break when they turn around to look... And everything I already mentioned in the cons.

How much does the 2014 Hyundai Veloster cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $7,073 |
| Year-Round Low | $6,961 |
| Year-Round High | $8,092 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,828 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.64% |
Prices have softened 9.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 252 listings available, which gives you a useful amount of inventory to compare prices and condition.
Is the 2014 Hyundai Veloster a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. The Veloster stands out because it blends hatchback practicality with an unusual three-door layout, giving you a distinctive compact car with generous cargo space. For 2014, Hyundai also added useful everyday equipment such as a rearview camera, a driver’s blind-spot mirror, and daytime running lights, while the Turbo R-Spec trim added a short-throw shifter, red interior, and enhanced suspension for a sportier feel. 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still some market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Hyundai Veloster reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Veloster’s appeal is tied to its practical hatchback body, front-wheel-drive layout, and available automatic and dual-clutch transmissions, which give you a straightforward ownership experience. Its EPA-rated highway fuel economy of 37 mpg also suggests it can be an efficient daily driver. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the car has been maintained well, since condition and history will matter more than the model’s quirky packaging.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Hyundai Veloster?
At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal whether past incidents were properly repaired. Because the Veloster’s appeal depends on both style and practicality, focus on overall condition inside and out, not just mileage or price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Hyundai Veloster?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 252 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $6,961, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?
The current average of $7,073 sits slightly below last year's $7,828.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on how well you preserve the car’s condition and documentation. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the broader market has softened.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line:
If you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and you’re comfortable shopping carefully, the 2014 is a sensible primary choice because it combines a lower average price with decent deal availability. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep a close eye on the lowest-priced examples and be ready to move quickly when you find one with a clean history and solid condition.
