Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?

Honda’s performance notes emphasize that the van is built to be responsive, smooth, and capable in everyday driving, which supports the impression of a vehicle designed for steady use over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may show the wear and tear that comes with family duty, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?

At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has been used heavily for family hauling. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any issues that could affect daily usability. Because some owners reported acceleration and vibration concerns, a thorough road test is especially important.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most affordable trim, while higher trims add features such as triple-zone automatic climate control, power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, a touchscreen audio system with HondaLink, LaneWatch, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, parking sensors, and a Blind Spot Information System. The Touring Elite is the most feature-rich choice, but the base trim leaves out many convenience and safety upgrades.
• Powertrain: A 248-hp 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Honda says the setup helps improve fuel economy, and the van is described as responsive, energetic, and surprisingly capable.
• Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is standard, along with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite adds a Blind Spot Information System.
• Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, an ultrawide rear-seat screen, HDMI technology, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, and the review notes a combined-driving observation of 19.8 mpg.

Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want core tech like Bluetooth, text messaging, Pandora, and a USB port. It makes sense if you care more about the Odyssey’s family-hauling basics than luxury extras.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds major everyday conveniences such as triple-zone climate control, power sliding side doors, push-button start, HondaLink, and a touchscreen audio system.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin with leather, heated front seats, a power sunroof, and a power tailgate. It also adds Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning, making it a strong step up for comfort and safety-minded buyers.
• Touring: This trim is for you if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, plus bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, memory settings, and third-row sunshades.
• Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including the ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.

The safety package is strongest as you move up the trim ladder, with the Touring Elite adding the Blind Spot Information System.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,236 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,449, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $10,499 sits slightly below last year's $11,296.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the van in good condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher, higher-mileage vans.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda says the 2014 model benefits from a stronger safety structure and standard 6-speed automatic transmission across the lineup.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,583, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,499 average.
• It adds more design flair while keeping the same family-focused mission.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong safety and broad family appeal. If you’re willing to pay more for a fresher-feeling design, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
