CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 1,182 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,882.00, 27.6% of 2014 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Ford Mustang 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
60.3% of 2014 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Mustang stands out as the culmination of five decades of engineering development, and it is presented as the best the Pony car has ever been. That long-running evolution is part of its appeal: it blends the Mustang’s classic identity with a level of refinement that makes it feel more complete than a nostalgia act. Buyers drawn to the Mustang’s heritage will find that this version still leans into the car’s traditional character while benefiting from years of development.
Its strongest calling card is performance. Under hard acceleration, the 5.0-liter engine pulls eagerly deep into redline territory, and it does so without a significant amount of rear-end squat. That combination suggests a car that feels lively and composed when driven hard, which helps explain why it remains attractive to enthusiasts. At the same time, the Mustang is not without compromises, and owner feedback points to cramped back seats and smaller trunk space in some models as practical drawbacks.

Amazing car, very fun to drive with just enough amount of power. Small and compact which makes it easy to maneuver. This is my daily driver and I love it and yes a V8 has superior performance but I dont race so this is perfect.

How much does the 2014 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,969 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,284.08 |
| Year-Round High | $15,955.35 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,245 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +4.75% |
Prices are up 4.75% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,198 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice but still rewards quick action on strong examples. If you find a listing below $14,284.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Ford Mustang earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Drivers consistently praise the powerful performance, classic design, thrilling driving experience, and impressive handling. The overview also points to a Mustang that blends heritage with refinement, so you get the traditional Pony-car character without it feeling like a pure nostalgia piece.
That combination makes sense if you want a car with strong enthusiast appeal and everyday usability, though the cramped back seats and smaller trunk space remain part of the tradeoff. With 23.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary also points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: strong performance, classic design, and a driving experience people enjoy enough to keep recommending. The expert notes add that the Mustang and Camaro rank above average for dependability, which supports the idea that this is not just an emotional buy.
Ford’s performance notes also reinforce that the V6 runs on regular fuel, which helps keep ownership simpler and less costly if you choose that setup. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been driven hard or neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven enthusiastically. Focus on body condition, signs of wear from hard use, and whether the car’s equipment matches what the seller claims. Because this model can be bought in several configurations, it’s worth checking that the trim and options align with your needs before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car uses a 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while V6 Premium adds leather upholstery, the smartphone-linked SYNC system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminum interior trim, a premium audio package with satellite radio service, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. GT trims add a 5.0-liter powerplant, upgraded Brembo brakes, a programmable key, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, SYNC infotainment, HID headlights, functional hood vents, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The base 3.7-liter V6 makes 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque and can return an EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission. The GT’s 5.0-liter V8 makes 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, but it asks for premium fuel and is rated at 15 mpg city and 26 highway with the manual.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available 6-speed manual transmission, and 4 airbags. The car does not include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Ford’s SYNC AppLink technology for hands-free calling and voice control of apps. An available Electronics Package adds a touchscreen and voice-controlled navigation system with SiriusXM real-time traffic information, HD radio, a 6-month Travel Link subscription, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 with a 6-speed manual is rated at 31 mpg highway. The GT manual is rated at 15 mpg city and 26 highway, while the available automatic is rated at 18 city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: base, V6 Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the value play if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest entry point. You get the 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, so it covers the essentials without the extra comfort and tech features.
- V6 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more livable daily driver. It adds leather upholstery, SYNC, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminum interior trim, premium audio with satellite radio, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, making it the smarter pick for most shoppers.
- GT: Choose this if you want the 5.0-liter V8 and the stronger performance hardware that comes with it. It adds Brembo brakes, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, functional hood vents, and larger wheels, so it’s the right move if performance matters more than budget.
- GT Premium: This is the most complete version if you want the V8 plus more comfort and convenience. The expert notes also mention Track Apps on the GT Premium, which adds performance-oriented tools for drivers who want more than just straight-line speed.
The safety content notes that the car lacks several advanced driver-assistance features, so you should not expect modern active-safety coverage on any trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
Act selectively, because this is still a seller’s market and the best cars can move quickly.
- Deal availability: 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,198 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.75% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,284.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $15,969 sits slightly above last year's $15,245.
That upward move suggests the market still sees value in this model year, which can help support resale if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. Strong demand tends to favor clean, well-documented examples, especially when the car has the kind of enthusiast appeal this Mustang does. If you choose a desirable trim and avoid overpaying, you give yourself a better chance of holding value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?
It earns five-star ratings for rollover protection from NHTSA, but other crash-test results were not yet published for this model year.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available 6-speed manual transmission, and 4 airbags. The safety content also notes the absence of blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning, so you should not expect a full suite of modern driver aids.
Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 4.75% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 is the culmination of five decades of Mustang development, blending classic identity with added refinement.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $20,264, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $15,969 average.
- It brings a redesigned Mustang with a big improvement in dynamics and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced, proven version with strong enthusiast appeal, the 2014 is the easier buy. If you’re willing to spend more for the redesigned 2015 and its broader improvements, that newer model is the better long-term upgrade. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2014 remains the more compelling value as long as you verify history and condition carefully.
