Is the 2014 Ford Fiesta a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Ford Fiesta earns 4.3/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from expert testing. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its cute design, fuel efficiency, and fun driving experience, along with useful features like backup cameras and heated seats. Is the 2014 Ford Fiesta reliable?

The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on a car that feels good to live with day to day. Expert commentary reinforces that it can be a rewarding daily driver when maintained well, and the cost-effectiveness notes suggest it delivers a lot of value for the money. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is the engine-history concern mentioned by owners, so mechanical records matter here.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Fiesta?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has incomplete service records. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and any evidence of mechanical neglect, since the owner feedback highlights engine-related concerns. If possible, test the car in both city and highway driving so you can judge how it feels under load and at speed.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim comes standard with Ford’s Sync multimedia system, an auxiliary audio input jack, and a multifunction message center with an LCD information screen. The SE adds cruise control, a trip computer, 7-color ambient lighting, and MyKey, while the Titanium adds a backup camera, reverse-sensing system, and push-button start.
• Powertrain: All trims use Ford’s 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual is recommended for making the most of the power, while a 6-speed automatic is available.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual-stage first-row airbags, driver’s knee airbags, side impact airbags, side curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, improved side-impact structures, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
• Infotainment: Ford Sync comes standard, including MyFordTouch touchscreen functionality. The system is described as having a touchscreen layout and software that had improved by 2014, though some controls can still feel small and the interface can be finicky.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5-speed manual is rated at 27 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the 6-speed automatic is listed at 29 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. A 1.0-liter turbocharged engine is also mentioned as delivering as much as 35 mpg on the highway.

Which 2014 Ford Fiesta trim should I buy?

The 2014 Ford Fiesta is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you Sync, an auxiliary audio input jack, and the multifunction message center. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Fiesta, but you give up the convenience and comfort upgrades found higher up.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cruise control, a trip computer, 7-color ambient lighting, and MyKey. If you want the most balanced mix of features and price, this is the one to focus on.
• Titanium: This is the most feature-rich trim, adding a backup camera, reverse-sensing system, and push-button start. It suits you best if you want the most convenience and parking help from the factory.

The Titanium trim includes the backup camera and reverse-sensing system, while the SE adds MyKey and ambient lighting.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Fiesta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 336 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,145, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Ford Fiesta's resale value?

The current average of $6,145 sits slightly below last year's $6,578.

That softer pricing suggests the Fiesta is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can make it easier for you to purchase now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car well documented, you can help protect your future resale position. The model’s value-oriented reputation and owner satisfaction should help sustain demand, but condition and maintenance history will matter a lot.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Ford Fiesta safe?

The 2014 Ford Fiesta earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for the driver in a frontal crash and second-row side impact, and four-star ratings for the front passenger in frontal crash and front-row side impact.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual-stage first-row airbags, driver’s knee airbags, side impact airbags, side curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, improved side-impact structures, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The crash-test results show that the Fiesta does well overall for a small car, but the lower front-passenger and front-row side-impact scores are worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2014 Ford Fiesta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 refresh brought standout looks, a well-equipped interior, and important entertainment technology.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It adds an EcoBoost model and a broader luxury-or-sporty personality.

The bottom line: The 2014 is the better pick if you want the refreshed styling and strong value story at a lower used price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year twist and the EcoBoost option, the 2015 is the more flexible alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 remains the smarter starting point.
