Used 2014 Dodge Journey for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2014 Dodge Journey cost?

Prices have softened 1.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 465 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Dodge Journey earns a 4/5 user rating and a 5.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

The Journey’s appeal comes from its practical, easy-to-use interior, low price tag, and useful everyday layout. It also offers a powerful V6 engine and good crash-test ratings, which helps it fit buyers who want utility and affordability in a crossover.

The market shows 25.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Journey’s practical design and straightforward cabin layout support its everyday usefulness, but the expert review also points to weaknesses in fuel economy, retained value, and long-term ownership costs. The 4-cylinder engine is described as significantly short of power, while the V6 is stronger but thirsty.

The review also notes that long-term reliability is expected to fall below average, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before committing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and mechanicals match the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the American Value Package to SE, SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T, and Crossroad. The least-expensive version is aimed at buyers who want maximum room for minimal money, while the SE adds more equipment and popular options. The SXT and SXT Plus are the volume trims, the Limited is the more luxurious choice, and the R/T is the sportier version. The Crossroad is also part of the lineup, and the Blacktop Package adds blacked-out trim and Gloss Black 19-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: The standard 173-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is described as significantly short of power. A 283-hp 3.6-liter V6 is strongly recommended, and it pairs with a 6-speed automatic that helps it return fuel-economy numbers nearly as good as the smaller engine.
• Safety package: The Journey includes a standard knee airbag for the driver. A reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are available depending on trim level, but Dodge does not offer more sophisticated safety technology. Uconnect Access services are not available.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen is a major strength, with easy Bluetooth pairing, large graphics and icons, big virtual buttons, separate volume and tuning knobs, voice command, real-time traffic and weather, and optional Uconnect Web by Mopar for mobile Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is expected to get 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined. The review also describes the V6 as strong, if thirsty.

Which 2014 Dodge Journey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Journey is offered in 6 trim levels: American Value Package, SE, SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• American Value Package: This is the budget-focused choice if you want the most room for the least money. It is the least-expensive version, but the SE is the better pick if you want access to more equipment and popular options.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the best value balance. It adds more equipment than the American Value Package and opens the door to more popular options without pushing you into the pricier trims.
• SXT: This is one of the best-selling versions, and it sits in the middle of the lineup with broader appeal. It is also one of the trims that can be paired with the optional V6, which makes it a smart step up if you want more power.
• SXT Plus: This is the trim to choose if you want a more equipped version of the SXT. It was the test vehicle’s trim, and it can be paired with the V6, Popular Equipment Group, Sun/Sound Group, Navigation Group, leather seats, and the Blacktop Package.
• Limited: This is the more luxurious choice in the lineup. It comes standard with the V6, so it suits you if comfort and stronger performance matter more than entry-level pricing.
• R/T: This is the sportier version of the Journey. It also comes standard with the V6, so it is the trim to consider if you want the most performance-oriented setup in the lineup.

The safety package is limited, with a standard knee airbag and available reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors depending on trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 465 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,455, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Journey's resale value?

The current average of $6,713 sits slightly below last year's $6,784.

That modest decline suggests the Journey is holding value reasonably steadily, but not strongly enough to signal a rising market. If you plan to sell later, you should expect pricing to remain sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the model is not expected to retain value especially well over time, a clean history and strong maintenance record matter more if you want to protect resale appeal.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey safe?

The 2014 Dodge Journey earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The Journey includes a standard knee airbag for the driver, and reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are available depending on trim level. Dodge does not offer more advanced safety technology, and Uconnect Access services are not available.

On the crash-test side, the Journey receives the top rating of Good in all IIHS tests for which it has been assessed, but it had not been tested in the small-overlap frontal-impact test at the time of the review, so it was ineligible for a Top Safety Pick designation.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Journey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• There’s plenty to like about the 2014 Dodge Journey, from its low pricetag and practical interior to its powerful V6 engine and good crash-test ratings.

The bottom line: If you want a used crossover with a low average price, practical packaging, and a strong infotainment highlight, the 2014 is worth a close look. If you’re shopping mainly on long-term ownership costs or want a more modern-feeling redesign, you may want to compare it carefully against other years before deciding.
