Used 2014 Dodge Journey for Sale nearDetroit, MI

How much does the 2014 Dodge Journey cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 465 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Dodge Journey earns a 4/5 user rating and a 5.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

The Journey’s practical, easy-to-use interior and low price tag make it appealing if you want everyday utility and affordability. It also offers a powerful V6 engine and good crash-test ratings, but the overall impression is that it was ready for a full redesign.

The market shows 26.9% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Journey’s practical interior and straightforward usability support its appeal as a family-oriented crossover, but the expert evaluation also points to weaknesses in long-term ownership economics. Its fuel economy, retained value, and cost-of-ownership profile are not strong compared with other crossovers, and the expert assessment says long-term reliability is expected to fall below average.

The 3.6-liter V6 is described as strong, if thirsty, and the 6-speed automatic is tuned to maximize fuel economy, but the transmission’s behavior and the vehicle’s ownership-cost profile suggest you should be selective about condition and maintenance history when shopping used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently, since the Journey’s long-term ownership profile makes a clean, well-kept example more important than a bargain with unknown history.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the budget-focused American Value Package to the more equipped SE, with the SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T, and Crossroad adding progressively more equipment and personality. The base version is the one most likely to feel stripped down, while the SE is the better starting point if you want more equipment and options.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder is described as significantly short of power, while the available 3.6-liter V6 is strongly recommended for its much better performance. The four-cylinder uses a 4-speed automatic, while the V6 gets a 6-speed automatic that helps it return fuel-economy numbers nearly as good as the smaller engine.
• Safety package: The Journey includes a standard knee airbag for the driver, while a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are optional depending on trim. The safety tech is otherwise limited, so you should not expect a broad driver-assistance suite.
• Infotainment: The available Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen is a major strength, with a simple layout, easy Bluetooth pairing, large graphics and icons, and big virtual buttons. It also offers real-time traffic and weather reports, voice command, and optional Uconnect Web by Mopar for mobile Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 front-wheel-drive model is expected to return 17 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined. The expert evaluation also notes that the V6 is not fuel-efficient, especially for city driving.

Which 2014 Dodge Journey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Journey is offered in 6 trim levels: American Value Package, SE, SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• American Value Package: This is the least-expensive way into the Journey, and it makes sense if your top priority is maximum room for minimal money. You should expect the fewest features, so it works best only if you are focused on price above all else.
• SE: This is the better value choice because it adds more equipment and access to popular options without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want the best balance of affordability and livability, this is the trim to target first.
• SXT: This is one of the best-selling versions, and it gives you a more mainstream mix of equipment and value. It is a sensible step up if you want a more complete Journey without going all the way to the pricier trims.
• SXT Plus: This trim builds on the SXT with more equipment and was the test vehicle’s starting point in the review. It suits you if you want a better-equipped Journey and plan to add desirable option groups.
• Limited: This is the more luxurious choice, and it is the trim to consider if comfort and upscale presentation matter most. It also comes standard with the V6, which is a major plus.
• R/T: This is the sportier version, and it is the right pick if you want the Journey’s most performance-oriented character. It also comes standard with the V6.

A V6 engine is optional on the SXT, SXT Plus, and Crossroad, and standard on the Limited and R/T. All-wheel drive is optional on those trims as well.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Journey?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 465 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,393, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Journey's resale value?

The current average of $6,626 sits slightly below last year's $6,672.

That small decline suggests the Journey’s used-market pricing has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. For a future seller, that means you are not looking at a model with strong appreciation potential, but you also are not facing a dramatic drop in value over a short period.

Because the Journey is not expected to retain value especially well over time, your best resale strategy is to buy a clean, well-maintained example and avoid overpaying up front. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Journey safe?

The 2014 Dodge Journey earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It receives the top rating of Good in all IIHS tests for which it has been assessed, though it was not eligible for a Top Safety Pick designation because the small-overlap frontal-impact test had not been conducted at the time.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The Journey includes a standard knee airbag for the driver, while a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors are optional depending on trim. That means the safety equipment is solid in basic crash protection, but the active safety tech is limited compared with newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Journey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The available Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen infotainment system is a major draw, and the Journey also brings good crash-test ratings and a practical, easy-to-use interior.

The bottom line: If you want a low-cost crossover with a practical cabin and strong infotainment appeal, the 2014 Journey is the right year to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still find value here, but you should be selective about condition and history because the model’s long-term ownership profile is not especially strong.
