Is the 2014 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Dodge Durango earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, comfort, power, and quality materials, and they also like the smooth operation of the Uconnect system. From a use-case standpoint, that lines up well if you want a roomy, refined SUV that still feels capable and modern rather than purely utilitarian.

The market also shows 27.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Dodge Durango reliable?

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with recurring praise for comfort, power, and the kind of roomy cabin that makes it easy to live with over time. The expert evaluation also describes the Durango as rugged, durable, and impervious to rough roads, which reinforces the sense that it is built to handle regular use well.

At the same time, the ownership outlook is tempered by concerns about reliability and cost of ownership, including reports of engine and climate control issues. For used buyers, that means long-term risk is worth taking seriously, especially if you plan to keep the SUV for many years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Durango?

At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and mechanical systems show the kind of wear that could point to deferred maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT Plus adds a 12-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio, while the Limited adds leather seats, heated front and rear seats, a power front passenger seat, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, dual USB charging ports, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded sound system, remote start, a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, and a universal garage door opener. The R/T adds a 5.7-liter V8, performance steering, a sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, 20-inch wheels, a premium sound system, and a power tailgate. The Citadel adds premium leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power sunroof, navigation, a cargo net, a cargo cover, bi-Xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and extra chrome trim.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the available 5.7-liter V8 adds more power and a higher tow rating. The V6 is described as smooth and capable, while the 8-speed automatic helps the SUV feel responsive and efficient in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Trailer Sway Control is standard for all models. The Limited can be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection. That system is also available on the R/T and Citadel, bundled with Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation.
• Infotainment: The Durango uses an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with responsive controls and Bluetooth pairing. Uconnect Access adds traffic, weather, gas-station search, movie listings, sports scores, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and emergency calling.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 test vehicle averaged 18.2 mpg, and the EPA combined estimate cited for the AWD test vehicle was 19 mpg. The Durango also tows up to 6,200 pounds with the V6 and 7,400 pounds with the optional V8.

Which 2014 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2014 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T, Citadel.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point if you want the Durango’s core space, style, and standard equipment without paying for extras. It makes sense if you care most about getting into the model at the lowest cost.
• SXT Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete daily-driver setup, because it adds a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio. It is the trim to target if you want a better-equipped cabin without jumping to the pricier V8-oriented models.
• Limited: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers because it layers in leather, heated seats, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, remote start, and useful parking and convenience features. It also can be upgraded with the V8, so it gives you the broadest mix of comfort and capability.
• R/T: Choose this if you want the sportiest Durango, since it comes with the 5.7-liter V8, performance steering, a sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, and 20-inch wheels. It is the right pick if driving character matters more to you than value.
• Citadel: This is the most upscale choice, with premium leather, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, navigation, and extra exterior polish. It suits you best if you want the most luxury-oriented Durango.

Trailer Sway Control is standard across the lineup, and the Limited, R/T, and Citadel get the most advanced available driver-assistance content.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 621 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,429, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $10,476 sits slightly below last year's $11,430.

That decline suggests the Durango has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favorable if you are planning to sell soon. A lower current price can help attract shoppers, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the vehicle is especially well kept.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2014 Dodge Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal-impact driver protection and rollover resistance and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also earns a Good result from IIHS in all assessed measures except the small-overlap frontal-impact test, which had not been evaluated at the time of the review.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango includes Ready Alert Braking, Rain Brake Support, and Trailer Sway Control as standard equipment. Uconnect Access adds a 911 button, and the available driver-assistance suite brings Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation. The Limited can also be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers and automatic high-beam headlights.

Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its roomy cabin, strong technology, and refined driving feel, while also carrying concerns about reliability and ownership costs.

The bottom line: If you want a used Durango with strong comfort, technology, and a lower asking price, the 2014 is a sensible choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can shop carefully for a well-kept example and focus on condition and maintenance history before deciding.
