CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 645 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,793, 29.9% of 2014 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Dodge Durango 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
60.5% of 2014 Durango models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Dodge Durango stands out as a rugged, substantial SUV with a body that feels carved from a single block of steel. That toughness is part of its appeal, but it is not the whole story: this version is also described as stylish, safe, roomy, refined, and technologically sophisticated. For buyers who expect a Durango to be only an old-school utility vehicle, that combination of strength and polish is what makes it distinctive.
It also has the kind of everyday appeal that matters in a family SUV. The available owner feedback points to a spacious interior, strong power, and a comfortable ride, along with a smooth Uconnect system and materials such as leather seats. At the same time, the main drawback is hard to ignore: leading auto industry research firms give it unfavorable reliability and cost-of-ownership predictions, and some owners report reliability concerns with the engine and climate control systems.

Bought new, and luv my Durango, 206k miles later. No major repairs needed until recently. Has the famous Dodge Ticking sound, lifters need replacing I’m told. And transfer case needs replacing, because truck gears grind or something during takeoff if accelerating too fast. Besides those two things, can’t think of anything besides Normal wear and tear. 10 years later and I Still luv my Durango.

How much does the 2014 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,775 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,443 |
| Year-Round High | $11,531 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,488 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.21% |
Prices have softened 6.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 649 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.45/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked SUV with broad appeal. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, strong power, comfortable ride, quality materials, and smooth Uconnect system. The overview also frames it as a roomy, refined, technologically sophisticated SUV, which fits well if you want family utility without giving up a more upscale feel.
With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with praise centered on comfort, power, and a smooth ownership experience. At the same time, some owners report reliability concerns with the engine and climate control systems, so you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important.
The expert review also describes unfavorable reliability and cost-of-ownership predictions, and notes that the Durango is expected to deliver below-average reliability. That means a used example can still be appealing, but you should be cautious about long-term ownership risk if service records are thin or warning signs are present.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Durango?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any accident, title, or repair flags. Focus closely on body condition, interior wear, and signs of inconsistent maintenance, since the model’s ownership story makes documentation especially valuable.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SXT starts the lineup, while the SXT Plus adds a 12-way power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio. The Limited adds leather seats, heated front and rear seats, a power front passenger seat, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, dual USB charging ports, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded sound system, remote engine start, a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, and a universal garage door opener. The R/T adds a 5.7-liter V8, performance steering, a sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, 20-inch wheels, a premium sound system, and a power tailgate. The Citadel adds premium leather upholstery, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, an 8-way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, a power sunroof, navigation, a cargo net, a cargo cover, bi-Xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and extra chrome trim. The best-value trim is the Limited if you want the strongest mix of comfort and equipment.
- Powertrain: The V6 is described as capable and smooth, while the optional V8 adds more power and raises towing capacity. The 8-speed automatic helps the SUV feel responsive and efficient, and the Durango can tow up to 6,200 pounds with the V6 and 7,400 pounds with the V8.
- Safety package: The available Technology Group includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection, and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation. The Limited can also be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection. Some of these features are trim-specific, so don’t assume a lower-trim Durango has them.
- Infotainment: The Durango uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect Access services, and the system is described as easy to use with Bluetooth pairing, music streaming, and calling. Uconnect Access adds traffic, weather, gas-price lookup, movie listings, sports scores, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and emergency assistance.
- Fuel efficiency: The review says the AWD test vehicle was rated at 19 mpg and averaged 18.2 mpg in mixed driving.
Which 2014 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, SXT Plus, Limited, R/T.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Durango’s core size and capability at the lowest starting price, but it leaves out several comfort and convenience upgrades.
- SXT Plus: This is the trim to consider if you want the best value, because it adds a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-rail crossbars, and satellite radio without jumping all the way to the more expensive trims.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers, since it layers in leather, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect Access, remote start, and parking aids.
- R/T: Choose this if you want the sportiest setup, since it brings the V8, sport-tuned suspension, heavy-duty brakes, and a more aggressive character.
The safety content also notes that the Limited can be upgraded with rain-sensing wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection, while the R/T and Citadel can package those features with Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 649 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,443, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $10,775 sits slightly below last year's $11,488.
That price trend suggests the Durango has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If the market continues to soften, resale upside may stay limited, so your best protection is to buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Dodge Durango safe?
The 2014 Dodge Durango earns Good ratings from IIHS in all measured areas except the small-overlap frontal-impact test, which had not been assessed at the time of the review, and it receives four-star ratings in frontal-impact driver protection and rollover resistance, with five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango includes Ready Alert Braking, Rain Brake Support, and Trailer Sway Control as standard equipment. Uconnect Access also adds a 911 emergency button, and the available Technology Group brings Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-Spot and Cross-Path Detection, and Forward-Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation. Models equipped with the optional Forward-Collision Warning system also receive a Basic front crash prevention rating from IIHS.
Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The expert review highlights a stylish, safe, roomy, refined, and technologically sophisticated SUV, but also flags unfavorable reliability and cost-of-ownership predictions.
The bottom line: The 2014 makes sense if you want this Durango’s mix of space, tech, and comfort at a softened price point. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the current market can still reward careful shopping, but you should prioritize condition, records, and a thorough inspection because ownership-cost concerns remain part of the story.
