It also has a more engaging feel than many vehicles in this class.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in day-to-day family use, with praise centered on spaciousness, features, and good gas mileage. The expert summary also frames it as a practical, long-term family crossover that can deliver meaningful savings off the sticker price, which helps offset average predicted reliability and cost-of-ownership ratings.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that some drivers have reported engine noise and potential transmission issues, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because the model’s appeal depends heavily on family usability and feature content, you should also focus on interior condition, electronics, and how well the cabin equipment works. If you’re considering a higher-trim example, make sure the added safety and convenience features are functioning as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS is the simplest version, while the 1LT adds aluminum wheels, foglights, remote engine start, rear parking assist sensors, a front-center airbag, and nicer trim inside and out. The 2LT adds triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming mirrors, a power rear liftgate, Chevrolet MyLink technology, and a Bose premium audio system with rear-seat audio controls and headphone jacks. The LTZ adds leather seats, ventilated front seats, memory for the driver’s settings, an 8-way power adjustable front passenger’s seat, a heated steering wheel, a side blind-zone alert system, a lane-departure warning system, a forward collision warning system, chrome exterior trim, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.
• Powertrain: A 3.6-liter V6 is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive standard and AWD optional. The setup is described as strong enough to move the Traverse confidently, and it can tow up to 5,200 pounds.
• Safety package: OnStar is standard and includes automatic crash response, crisis assist, and emergency services. A reversing camera is standard, rear parking assist sensors are included on the 1LT and 2LT, and the LTZ gets side blind-zone alert, lane-departure warning, and forward collision alert. The blind-zone alert system is limited to the LTZ.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink uses a 6.5-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth streaming audio, access to Internet radio stations, access to phonebook contacts and music libraries, and customizable home-page icons. Navigation is extra, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the Traverse is more fuel-efficient than a traditional big SUV, and the test vehicle averaged 17.8 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Traverse trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Traverse’s space and core utility at the lowest price. It skips some of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up, so it works best if you’re focused on value and don’t need extra equipment.
• 1LT: This trim adds a more complete everyday feature set with aluminum wheels, foglights, remote engine start, rear parking assist sensors, a front-center airbag, and upgraded trim. It’s a strong step up if you want a better balance of comfort and equipment without going all the way to the top.
• 2LT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, a power rear liftgate, Chevrolet MyLink, and a Bose premium audio system. If you want a family-friendly Traverse with the right mix of convenience and comfort, this is the trim to target.
• LTZ: This is the most fully equipped version, with leather, ventilated front seats, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, and the most advanced safety content in the lineup. It suits you best if you want the most upscale Traverse experience and are willing to pay for it.

The LTZ is the only trim with side blind-zone alert, lane-departure warning, and forward collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 758 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,215, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?

The current average of $7,215 sits slightly below last year's $8,178.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. If you own one for a few years, the current pricing trend implies you should expect resale value to remain sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment level. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher, lower-spec listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse earns five-star ratings for every assessment except rollover resistance, for which it rates four stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it its highest rating of Good in nearly every test, combined with a Basic front crash prevention rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

OnStar is standard and includes automatic crash response, crisis assist, and emergency services. A reversing camera is also standard, rear parking assist sensors are included on the 1LT and 2LT, and the LTZ adds side blind-zone alert, lane-departure warning, and forward collision alert. The main caveat is that the blind-zone alert system is limited to the LTZ, and the forward collision and lane-departure systems can be imperfect in use.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary highlights a roomy, safe, and dynamically satisfying crossover with a lower tow rating than a traditional SUV but meaningful savings off the sticker price.

The bottom line: If you want the Traverse’s roomy cabin, strong safety focus, and family-friendly value, the 2014 is a sensible used buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, this year’s softened pricing makes it worth a close look; if you want newer tech and can spend more, a later model year may be the better path.

How does the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse compare to the 2014 GMC Acadia?

Our experts score the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse 7.7/10 and the 2014 GMC Acadia 7/10.

The Traverse gives you the lower average used price and a stronger expert score, while the Acadia brings slightly more horsepower and a higher share of good and great deals. Both are similarly matched on fuel economy, listings volume, and accident-free share, so your decision comes down to whether you value the Traverse’s stronger overall expert assessment or the Acadia’s slightly better deal share and output.
