Is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in day-to-day family use, with praise centered on spaciousness, features, and good gas mileage. The expert summary also notes that the Traverse can offset average predicted reliability and cost-of-ownership ratings with meaningful savings off the sticker price.

The performance write-up reinforces that the powertrain never feels short on oomph, which supports confidence in regular use, and the cost-effectiveness section notes free scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some listings may already have wear or prior issues, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how the drivetrain and transmission behave on a test drive. Because owner feedback mentions possible transmission concerns, it is smart to pay close attention to shift quality and any unusual noises.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS is the simplest version, while the 1LT adds aluminum wheels, foglights, remote engine start, rear parking assist sensors, a front-center airbag, and nicer trim inside and out. The 2LT adds triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming mirrors, a power rear liftgate, Chevrolet MyLink technology, and a Bose premium audio system. The LTZ adds leather seats, ventilated front seats, memory for the driver’s settings, an 8-way power adjustable front passenger’s seat, a heated steering wheel, a side blind-zone alert system, a lane-departure warning system, a forward collision warning system, chrome exterior trim, and 20-inch aluminum wheels.
• Powertrain: A 3.6-liter V6 engine makes between 281 and 288 horsepower depending on trim, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. AWD is optional, and the Traverse can tow up to 5,200 pounds.
• Safety package: OnStar is standard and includes automatic crash response, crisis assist, and emergency services. A reversing camera is standard, rear parking assist sensors come on the 1LT and 2LT, and the LTZ adds forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, and a side blind-zone alert system.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink uses a 6.5-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth streaming audio, Internet radio access, phonebook contacts, and music libraries. Navigation is extra, and the rear-seat DVD entertainment system adds a single rear screen, wireless headphones, a Bose 5.1 Surround Sound audio system, and video-game input jacks.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the Traverse is more fuel-efficient than a traditional big SUV, and the performance section notes an average of 17.8 mpg in AWD testing, with an EPA estimate of 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Traverse trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Traverse’s core space and utility at the lowest price. It skips some of the convenience and safety upgrades found higher up, so it is best if you are focused on value and can live with a simpler feature set.
• 1LT: This trim adds a more complete everyday package with aluminum wheels, foglights, remote engine start, rear parking assist sensors, a front-center airbag, and nicer trim inside and out. It is a strong step up if you want the best balance of equipment and price.
• 2LT: This is the comfort-focused middle ground, adding triple-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, second-row captain’s chairs, a universal garage door opener, auto-dimming mirrors, a power rear liftgate, Chevrolet MyLink technology, and a Bose premium audio system. It is a good fit if you want family-friendly convenience without jumping to the top trim.
• LTZ: This is the most luxurious version, with leather seats, ventilated front seats, memory settings, a heated steering wheel, chrome exterior trim, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and the most advanced safety content in the lineup. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale Traverse and the most standard driver-assistance equipment.

The safety content makes clear that the side blind-zone alert system is standard only on the LTZ, so if that feature matters to you, you should shop that trim specifically.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 738 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,347, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?

The current average of $7,347 sits slightly below last year's $8,226.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation rather than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples with clean history and strong equipment should be easier to move than rougher ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment except rollover resistance, for which it earns a four-star rating. The IIHS gives it its highest rating of Good in nearly every test, combined with a Basic front crash prevention rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and OnStar services with automatic crash response, crisis assist, and emergency services. Rear parking assist sensors are included on the 1LT and 2LT, while the LTZ adds forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, and a side blind-zone alert system. The safety write-up also notes that the forward collision warning system can occasionally deliver false alerts and the lane-departure warning system can sometimes fail to read lane markings.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says it is roomy, safe, and dynamically satisfying, with the ability to save thousands off the sticker price.

The bottom line: The 2014 Traverse makes the most sense if you want a roomy, family-friendly crossover and you value current pricing softness. If you are especially price-sensitive, this year is attractive because the market has already moved down and there are still plenty of listings to compare. If you want a newer-year feature set, you may want to look at adjacent model years instead.
