How much does the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 718 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, quiet ride, and comfort for family trips, and many also see it as a strong value for the price. The overview points to a practical family-car mission with a composed driving feel, while the expert review highlights comfort, technology, and performance as the Malibu’s core strengths. With 25.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully for the right example.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that many drivers feel is dependable and a good long-term value, with praise centered on fuel economy, comfort, and overall usefulness. The expert review also describes the Malibu as a sound value proposition, and it notes free factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 24,000 miles. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior maintenance and condition line up with the car’s age and mileage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and any signs of uneven wear or repair quality. Because owner feedback mentions warranty issues and missing features on some cars, it also makes sense to confirm that the specific listing has the equipment and condition you expect. A careful test drive should focus on ride quality, steering feel, and whether the car’s comfort and tech features work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, OnStar, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and cruise control. The 1LT adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite radio and voice recognition, heated mirrors, and floor mats. The 2LT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. The 3LT is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine. The 1LTZ adds leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power-adjustable front seats. The 2LTZ adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine.
• Powertrain: The Malibu uses two distinct 4-cylinder powerplants and is strictly front-wheel drive. The base 2.5-liter engine makes 196 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter makes 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The standard 2.5-liter returns 25 mpg in town and 36 mpg on the highway, while the turbo 2.0-liter is rated at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.
• Safety package: The Malibu earned an overall 5-star rating from NHTSA and a Good rating in all IIHS tests. Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, and available features include rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: The MyLink system uses a 7-inch touchscreen on the 1LT and includes text-message reading and response, iPhone-specific Eyes Free functionality, Pandora and Stitcher integration, and voice control. The system is described as easy to use, and the navigation system is available on higher-spec cars.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard 2.5-liter engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is rated at 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Malibu trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LTZ, 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics you need, including Bluetooth, OnStar, cruise control, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Malibu without chasing extra equipment.
• 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, satellite radio, voice recognition, heated mirrors, and floor mats. If you want the Malibu’s tech story without moving too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• 2LT: This trim adds a more upscale feel with dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. It suits you if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping the purchase as lean as possible.
• 3LT: This version is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine. Choose it if you want the stronger engine without stepping all the way into the premium trims.
• 1LTZ: This is the premium-grade Malibu with leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated 8-way power-adjustable front seats. It fits you if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• 2LTZ: This trim adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine, making it the most fully equipped version in the lineup. It is the right pick if you want the highest-spec Malibu and are comfortable paying for it.

The safety package is a strong point across the lineup, with the Malibu earning a Good rating in all IIHS tests and an overall 5-star NHTSA rating.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 718 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,573, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?

The current average of $7,754 sits slightly below last year's $7,821.

That small decline suggests the Malibu has been holding a fairly steady value profile rather than swinging sharply up or down. For a future seller, that usually means you should expect resale to depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable features should be easier to move than rougher cars with visible wear or incomplete history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and a Good rating in all IIHS tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy equips the Malibu with 10 standard airbags, and available safety features include rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. That gives you a strong safety foundation, especially if you find a car with the available driver-assistance equipment. The main caveat is that some of those helpful features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any listing you consider.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the review: it combines comfort, technology, and performance in a way that makes it stand out among mainstream sedans.

The bottom line: If you want a used Malibu with a stable price profile, strong owner satisfaction, and a good mix of comfort and tech, the 2014 model is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop this year confidently, but you should be selective about condition and history because accident-free examples are not the majority.

How does the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu compare to the 2014 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu 7.2/10 and the 2014 Toyota Camry 7.5/10.

The Malibu gives you a much lower average used price and a stronger technology-and-safety story, while the Camry brings a slightly higher expert score and a larger pool of listings. The Malibu also offers more horsepower from its base engine, while the Camry edges it out on deal share and has a higher accident-free share in the comparison data. If you want the cheaper buy with more equipment appeal, the Malibu is compelling; if you want the slightly stronger overall score and broader shopping pool, the Camry has the edge.
