Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala a good car?

Yes — your 4.85/5 user rating and the 7.83/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the Impala’s beautiful design, comfort, and strong performance. The user feedback also highlights its reliability and great ride quality, which fits a large sedan that aims to feel more upscale than its badge suggests.

From an ownership perspective, it works well if you want a roomy, comfortable sedan with polished road manners and a more premium-feeling cabin. The market also shows 29.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback specifically points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience, alongside comfort and strong ride quality. The expert evaluation also describes the car as a reborn model with a genuinely impressive ride-and-handling package, which supports the sense that it’s built to be easy to live with over time.

Chevy’s 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty also adds some reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term wear matters more once factory coverage is no longer in play.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, electronics, and interior features, since the car’s appeal depends heavily on its comfort and technology. It’s also smart to compare trim equipment carefully, because some lower models miss features that make the Impala feel more upscale.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar telematics, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and 18-inch steel wheels, while the LS Eco adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and the eAssist hybrid system. The LT 1LT brings the 8-inch touchscreen MyLink system, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the 2LT adds the V6. The LTZ 1LTZ adds push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more safety equipment. The LTZ 2LTZ adds the V6. The best-value choice is often the LT 1LT if you want the core tech and comfort upgrades without stepping all the way up the ladder.

• Powertrain: The base 4-cylinder is direct-injected and returns 21 mpg city/31 highway, while the eAssist setup pairs a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack for an estimated 25/35. The 3.6-liter V6 delivers 305 hp and 264 lb-ft and is rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway. All models use a 6-speed automatic.

• Safety package: LTZ models include forward-collision alert, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry. Lesser trims can get many of these features as options, so you should verify exactly what’s installed on the car you’re considering.

• Infotainment: The MyLink system uses an 8-inch touchscreen and adds Bluetooth streaming audio, Pandora internet radio, voice controls, USB connectivity, and a hidden storage compartment with a USB port. The lower trims are where you’re most likely to run into feature gaps, including the absence of Bluetooth or a touchscreen.

• Fuel efficiency: The base 4-cylinder is rated at 21 mpg city/31 highway, the eAssist setup is suggested at 25/35, and the V6 is rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Impala trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LS Eco, LT 1LT, LT 2LT, LT Eco, LTZ 1LTZ, LTZ 2LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you Bluetooth, OnStar, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and the basic 4-cylinder setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Impala, but it’s also the trim most likely to feel stripped down compared with the rest of the lineup.

• LS Eco: This trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, and the eAssist hybrid system. It’s the pick if you want better efficiency and a little more comfort without moving into the midrange trims.

• LT 1LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It gives you the features that most clearly make the cabin feel modern and upscale.

• LT 2LT: This version keeps the LT 1LT equipment and adds the V6. Choose it if you want stronger acceleration and still want to stay below the LTZ models.

• LT Eco: This trim combines the LT equipment with the eAssist powertrain. It’s the right fit if you want the midrange feature set and the efficiency-focused setup together.

• LTZ 1LTZ: This is the most feature-rich version, with push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more safety equipment. It’s the best choice if you want the most upscale feel and the most complete equipment list.

• LTZ 2LTZ: This trim adds the V6 to the LTZ 1LTZ formula. Pick it if you want the top trim with stronger power.

The LTZ models also bring the most advanced safety equipment, while many of those features are optional on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 534 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,722, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala's resale value?

The current average of $9,948 sits slightly below last year's $10,562.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future resale. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later.

The Impala’s broad appeal comes from its comfort, styling, and strong owner satisfaction, which can help support demand when it’s time to sell. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold buyer interest better than stripped-down cars with missing features.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala safe?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS in the moderate front overlap crash test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety story is built around a long list of standard and available equipment, including 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, OnStar automatic crash response, roadside assistance, forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, a blind-spot monitor, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry. LTZ models get the most complete safety package, while many of those features are optional on lesser trims.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 redesign brought a major styling and comfort upgrade, plus a more premium-feeling cabin.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,861, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,948 average.
• It adds a bit more space and trunk room.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and the redesign gives you the modern Impala experience. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly roomier follow-up year, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
