CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 594 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,193.00, 31.1% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
60.4% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athletic ability. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination is a big part of its appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from an Acura.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a more broadly appealing SUV. Acura says it may not look as exciting as the old MDX, but it is a better SUV in almost every respect, and it is not simply a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller Acura RDX with fancy LED headlights. Owner feedback generally reinforces that appeal, with praise for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy.
There are also a few caveats worth noting. Some owners have raised concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. Even so, the 2014 Acura MDX remains distinctive for buyers who want a family-friendly crossover that still emphasizes a carefully tuned driving experience.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy. That lines up with the MDX’s role as a refined three-row luxury crossover that still keeps an athletic edge, so you get a family-friendly SUV that does not feel dull to drive.
With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable and trouble-free over time, with repeated praise for comfort, performance, and fuel economy. The expert review also describes the MDX as a carefully tuned, refined SUV that feels expertly calibrated and smooth in everyday use.
The ownership picture is still worth checking carefully on a used example, especially because luxury SUVs can become expensive if prior maintenance was skipped or wear items were neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, and whether the vehicle’s condition matches its mileage and asking price. Because this is a luxury crossover, you should also pay close attention to how well the cabin materials, electronics, and driver-assistance features have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, AcuraLink real-time traffic, a premium sound system, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, wireless headphones, a remote control, a 110-volt outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a 16.2-inch widescreen display, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, uses Variable Cylinder Management to save fuel when cruising, and pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is optional. The setup is described as strong, refined, smooth-revving, and well suited to both town driving and twisty roads.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. The lane departure warning system is described as hyper-active and sometimes inaccurate, so you should make sure it behaves acceptably in your driving environment.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, and the lower touchscreen controls stereo and other functions. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a 9-inch screen, while the Advance and Entertainment Package replaces it with a 16.2-inch screen. The text does not mention wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, or OTA capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined 21 mpg. The reviewer achieved 22 mpg with an emphasis on highway driving.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the most stripped-down version, and it lacks the added convenience, navigation, and driver-assistance features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best value if you want the biggest jump in everyday usefulness, because it adds navigation, real-time traffic, premium audio, keyless access, and key safety tech without going all the way to the top package.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance and Entertainment Package is the most fully equipped choice, adding the largest screen, ventilated front seats, parking sensors, remote start, and the most advanced driver-assistance features.
- Off-road trim: None of the described trims is positioned as an off-road variant.
The Technology Package is the key safety-package step up, and the Advance and Entertainment Package adds the most complete driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 592 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.74% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,042.23, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,152 sits slightly below last year's $13,172.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. The MDX’s broad appeal as a refined three-row luxury crossover should also help support demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The 2014 MDX gets Good ratings in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test from IIHS, and its front crash prevention rating is Advanced.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. The lane departure warning system is described as frequent and sometimes inaccurate, so that is a real-world caveat to keep in mind if you drive in areas with narrow lanes or faded markings.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.74% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned MDX is presented as a better SUV in almost every respect, with especially strong performance and safety scores.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX’s stronger driving dynamics, upscale feel, and broad owner approval, the 2014 is the right place to focus. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you can still shop selectively within this year’s inventory and target listings near the bottom of the range.
