CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 577 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,182, 32.9% of 2014 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Acura MDX 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
56.3% of 2014 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura MDX stands out as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athleticism. Acura describes its driving character as exacting and finely tuned, delivering the luxurious experience most owners want while still retaining the athleticism most owners need. That combination gives the MDX a broad appeal: it is meant to feel polished without giving up the responsiveness buyers expect from a more engaging SUV.
Compared with the previous MDX, the 2014 model is presented as a better SUV in almost every respect, even if it is not as visually exciting. Acura also makes clear that it should not be dismissed as merely a stretched seven-passenger version of the smaller RDX with fancy LED headlights. In owner feedback, the MDX is commonly praised for luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride quality, and fuel economy, though some drivers have noted concerns about seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models.

I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

| Year-Round High | $13,211 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,208 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.81% |
Prices have softened 7.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 569 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.67/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.83/10. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spaciousness, smooth ride, and fuel economy. That lines up with the MDX’s role as a redesigned luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with athleticism, so you get a polished family SUV that still feels responsive. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Drivers also describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with praise centered on comfort, performance, and the kind of ownership experience you can count on over time.
The driving impression reinforces that sense of durability: the V6 is described as strong and refined, and the SUV’s tuning is presented as expertly calibrated for everyday use. The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that Acura has historically done a good job of retaining value over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical weakness and more about finding a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history will matter a lot on a luxury SUV of this age.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Pay close attention to interior condition, seat comfort, and signs of wear in the cabin, since owner feedback includes concerns about material quality and seating comfort. It’s also smart to confirm that the equipment on the specific listing matches the trim and option package you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, premium audio, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds rear-seat DVD entertainment, wireless headphones, a remote control, a power outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a larger display, premium perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The MDX uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, plus Variable Cylinder Management for better efficiency when cruising. Front-wheel drive is standard, and SH-AWD is optional if you want the added torque-vectoring effect.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. Base trims miss out on most of those driver-assistance features.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, and the upper trim packages expand the setup with navigation, AcuraLink real-time traffic, premium audio, and a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen. The Advance and Entertainment Package replaces that with a 16.2-inch widescreen display.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for 21 mpg combined. The review also notes that the SUV is expected to hold its value over time.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the entry point if you want the MDX’s core luxury crossover experience at the lowest price. You still get the V6, the twin-screen layout, Bluetooth, a reversing camera, and the basic upscale feel, but you give up most of the convenience and safety upgrades that make higher trims easier to live with.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the most important everyday upgrades: navigation, premium audio, keyless access, and key driver-assistance features like forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on.
- Technology and Entertainment Package: Choose this if you need family-friendly rear-seat entertainment. It builds on the Technology Package with the DVD system, wireless headphones, a remote control, and heated rear seats, making it a better fit for frequent passengers in the second row.
- Advance and Entertainment Package: This is the most fully equipped version, adding ventilated front seats, remote start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking, and the larger 16.2-inch display. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and driver-assistance content.
The safety-package trim note is simple: the most advanced driver-assistance features are concentrated in the upper packages, so lower trims leave you with fewer active-safety aids.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 569 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,039, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,177 sits slightly below last year's $13,208.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing pressure has been real, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter even more when you go to list the vehicle. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the MDX has a strong reputation for comfort, performance, and value retention.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
The 2014 Acura MDX earns Good ratings in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test from IIHS, and it earns an Advanced front crash prevention rating from IIHS.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information, while the Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. One caveat is that the lane departure warning system is described as overly sensitive and sometimes inaccurate, so you may want to evaluate how intrusive it feels in real-world driving.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model is presented as a redesigned MDX that is better in almost every respect than the previous version, with especially strong driving dynamics and a more refined overall package.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned MDX with strong performance, solid safety, and a softer used-car price than a year ago, the 2014 is the right target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should still compare listings carefully and focus on condition, accident history, and equipment level, since the best-value examples will be the ones that combine clean history with the right package mix.
