I can't get over the handling. So responsive with a very tight turning radius. Lots of power, nearly 300 HP. The engine has the ability to shut down three of the six cylinders under certain steady state conditions so the highway mileage is usually around 27-28 mpg. Highly recommend this vehicle. I have owned about 70 cars thus far and would put this one in the top three. A few years back I wrote a book about 40 of the more interesting ones, titled Forty Cars That Owned Me. I'll have to add this one when I revise the book to bring it up to date.

Yes — the 2014 Acura MDX earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its luxury, comfort, performance, spacious interior, and smooth ride, and many also like the fuel economy. In practical terms, that lines up well with the MDX’s role as a three-row luxury crossover SUV for family use and longer trips. Even so, some owners mention seat comfort and a decline in material quality compared with earlier models. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive example.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable, trouble-free, and easy to live with over the long term, especially when it comes to comfort and everyday usability. The expert review also describes the MDX as refined and well sorted, with strong driving manners and a powertrain that feels smooth and robust. Acura’s maintenance coverage is not detailed here, so your best protection is a careful pre-purchase inspection and a service-history review. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is buying a neglected example with hidden wear or deferred maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Acura MDX?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on any example with a lower price or sparse service records. Focus on body condition, evidence of prior repairs, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as intended. Because this is a luxury SUV with a lot of equipment, small issues can add up quickly if they were ignored by the previous owner.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base version is relatively light on technology beyond Bluetooth, music streaming, hands-free text messaging, a USB port, a reversing camera, and Jewel Eye LED headlights. The Technology Package adds keyless access, navigation, AcuraLink real-time traffic, a premium sound system, HD Radio, satellite radio, GPS-linked climate control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot information, and 19-inch wheels. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, wireless headphones, a remote control, a 110-volt outlet, and heated rear seats. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds a 16.2-inch screen, premium perforated leather, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming side mirrors, remote engine start, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking.
- Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, and Variable Cylinder Management helps conserve fuel by running on fewer cylinders when cruising. The 6-speed automatic includes a Sport mode and paddle shifters, and SH-AWD is optional if you want the torque-vectoring benefit.
- Safety package: The Technology Package adds forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind spot information. The Advance and Entertainment Package adds adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking. The lane departure system is described as hyper-active and can be shut off.
- Infotainment: Every MDX gets twin display screens, but the lower touchscreen can suffer glare and fingerprints. The Technology and Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat DVD system with a 9-inch screen, while the Advance and Entertainment Package upgrades to a 16.2-inch screen. Wireless headphones and rear inputs are included with the rear entertainment setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The fully loaded test vehicle was rated at 18 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined 21 mpg. The reviewer achieved 22 mpg with an emphasis on highway driving.
Which 2014 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2014 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Technology Package, Technology and Entertainment Package, and Advance and Entertainment Package.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the one to skip if you want a well-equipped luxury SUV, because it lacks the richer convenience, audio, navigation, and driver-assistance features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Technology Package is the best value if you want the biggest jump in everyday usefulness, since it adds navigation, premium audio, traffic info, keyless access, and key safety tech without going all the way to the top.
- Premium/top trim: The Advance and Entertainment Package is the most luxurious choice, adding the largest screen, ventilated front seats, remote start, parking sensors, and the most advanced driver-assistance features.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims is positioned as an off-road choice, so you can focus on comfort, tech, and safety instead.
The Technology Package is the most important safety-package step up because it adds blind spot information, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Acura MDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to make negotiation worthwhile.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 608 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.51% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,038.11, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $12,499 sits slightly below last year's $13,370.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. A lower entry price can reduce the amount of value you stand to lose over the next few years. Strong equipment, broad appeal, and a good reputation for comfort can also help keep demand steady. If you buy a clean, well-maintained example, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Acura MDX safe?
It gets Good ratings from IIHS in both the moderate overlap frontal-impact test and the side-impact test, and the front crash prevention rating is Advanced. It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The MDX includes blind spot information, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation braking, depending on trim. The Technology Package adds the first layer of driver assistance, while the Advance and Entertainment Package brings the most comprehensive suite. One caveat is that the lane departure warning system is described as overly sensitive and sometimes inaccurate, so you may want to test it carefully on your own roads.
Should I buy a 2014 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says the redesigned MDX is better in almost every respect, even if it is less distinctive than the previous generation.
The bottom line: If you want a well-rounded luxury SUV with strong performance, good safety, and broad family appeal, the 2014 MDX is a sensible target year. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on clean, lower-priced listings and be selective about history and equipment so you do not overpay for a neglected example.
