Reviewed a 2010 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet RWD on Sep 2, 2014
I've owned several different brands of high-powered sports cars and keep coming back to Porsche. I've owned three, all cabriolets, and all with manual transmissions. I don't drive my 2010 every day, but when I need to really DRIVE somewhere--and the roads are interesting--I click the garage door opener and naturally gravitate to the 911. It's pure joy. In my view, the 2009-2012 911 (997 Generation 2) has the best combination of shift feel, clutch take-up, steering feedback, "right there" brakes, handling dynamics, engine note, seating position and ergonomics of any road car. You literally become "one with the car" (and I'm not being ironic, hyperbolic or intentionally naff). Take one for a test drive and you'll immediately see why people keep buying Porsches over the more sexily designed, yet somehow more brittle and less rewarding competition. If you don't own one and have wondered why Porsche drivers often wear a goofy grin and/or a smug expression, it's not because we're self-satisfied egotists or poseurs... we're just having a blast (thank you very much!).
