About 2019 Mazda MAZDA6
The Mazda Mazda6, a midsize sedan, competes with the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry. The current third-generation model hit the market in 2014 and has since gone through several transformations. It carries over for 2019. The base engine for the Mazda6 is a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that makes 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that makes a healthier 250 hp and 310 lb-ft. Since last year’s manual transmission option went away, the only transmission for either engine is a 6-speed automatic. Likewise, all Mazda6s are front-wheel drive (FWD). Fuel economy is stellar across the range, at 26 mpg city, 35 highway, and 29 combined for the base engine, and 23/31/26 for the turbocharged unit. The Mazda6 comes in Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature trims. The entry-level Sport grade includes 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED exterior lighting, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, voice commands, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Other trims add faux and authentic leather upholstery, larger wheels, keyless access and start, Bose audio, satellite radio, a premium instrument cluster, and authentic wood finishes. For Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, look to Touring and above trims. For 2019, Mazda made its full suite of safety features standard on the Mazda6. These consist of a reversing camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, auto-leveling headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capabilities, and rain-sensing wipers. The Mazda6 picked up a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) this year. The Mazda6 is worth a look for those interested in a functional everyday driver.
