For 2009, the Acadia gets a direct-injection version of its 3.6-liter DOHC V8 engine, boosting horsepower to 288 and torque to 270 lb-ft. Paired with a 6-speed automatic, fuel economy ratings remain around 16/24 mpg, despite the addition of variable valve timing. The extra power is needed, but still feels inadequate to move this 4,700-pound truck. Other new features for 2009 include standard Bluetooth and satellite radio with real-time traffic for all trims. The SLT trims get more options, such as a rearview camera, heated and cooled front seats, and OnStar with Turn-by-Turn navigation. Available in SLE, SLT-1, and SLT-2 trims, the 2009 Acadia comes in either front-wheel or intelligent all-wheel drive. The AWD system automatically redistributes torque between the front and rear wheels when it senses slippage. Though the biggest complaints focus on poor gas mileage and difficult maneuverability, the 2009 Acadia's interior comfort and space, combined with a surprisingly smooth and quiet ride and reliable safety ratings, keep it a strong competitor in its field.
