Overview
The Dodge Dakota pickup truck rolls into 2008 with a new look and a more-powerful V8 engine. The Dakota's updated exterior includes a more aerodynamic front end with a new hood, grille, headlights, and front fascia. Many drivers and reviewers like the Dakota's makeover, noting that it's an improvement over the previous year's flat front-end look. In addition, Dodge adds three new Dakota trims for 2008, including the SXT, TRX4, and Sport (which join the existing ST, SLT, and Laramie trims), and the exterior front-end look changes subtly for each trim.
The Dakota's new 4.7-liter V8 engine produces 302 hp, an increase of 72 hp over the previous year's base V8 engine, and 42 hp more than the previous year's high-end V8. The new engine incorporates two spark plugs per cylinder, which results in more power under the pedal as well as improved fuel efficiency. For an even greener driving experience, the new V8 can be equipped for E85 fuel, making the Dakota a Flex Fuel vehicle. The Dakota comes standard with a 210-hp, 3.7-liter Magnum V6 engine, which remains unchanged from the previous year.
The midsize Dakota has been a favorite with drivers for years due to its flexibity, since it can serve as a family-oriented vehicle or a work truck capable of towing up to 7,050 pounds when equipped with the V8 engine and the Trailer Tow package. To add to the Dakota's flexibility, it's available in either six-passenger crew-cab or extended-cab versions, with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
Inside, the 2008 Dakota offers good comfort and functionality, yet it's not overly luxurious. An MP3 input jack has been added to the AM/FM stereo system, and the center console now includes a flip-out bin for electronics devices like cell phones or MP3 players, as well as other items.
The Dakota rides on a hydroformed ladder frame and an updated heavy-duty suspension designed for strength and rigidity. It results in improved handling and a firmer ride, though some drivers and reviewers find the ride to be too rough at times. Overall, though, drivers like the updates made to the 2008 Dakota, although some would like to see more extensive interior updating.

This is a great truck for light jobs such as moving appliances. It handles great for a truck and it is fun to drive. It is a bit under powered at 210 bhp and with a 4-speed automatic its not getting much help. This truck does cruise very comfortably on long trips and for a truck it has some comfy suspension. The engine in it will just keep going as long as you treat it right with oil and transmission fluid changes. It gets about 18 mpg average which is not great but its not horrible either. I personally put about 23,000 miles on this truck a year.

My truck has a 3.7 litre V6 with a 6 speed manual transmission. I bought this truck about a month ago with 4 kilometers on it, it now has 875 kilometers on it now. I have taken Lucas up Vedder Mt. 4x4ing and it handled the rocks and bumps with no problems. The sound system sounds really good, it came with 1 year of Sirius sat radio. I really like the looks of the 2008 Dakota, compared to the 2007 model. It looks more refined, less "bulbus" in the front.

Great mid-sized truck. Worth every penny spent. In a class by itself. Other trucks either too small or too big.

Although I had sworn never to own a Chrysler product I got a good deal on this truck in 2008 with only 4K miles on it. Since then I've put over 52K trouble-free miles on it and have no complaints whatsoever. It can hold five people, haul just about anything that will fit in the five foot bed, and is reasonably economical.
