Overview

Some new audio upgrades and a selective engine performance booster are added to the 2007 Subaru Outback. This popular crossover SUV comes in both sedan and wagon form, though the rugged and versatile wagon is the most popular model. Featuring all-wheel drive, it is similar to the Legacy, although it has higher ground clearance.
Subaru offers a confusing number of trims for the 2007 Outback, but 3 engine choices are available. The 2.5-liter, 175-hp naturally aspirated boxer 4-cylinder comes in Base, 2.5i, L.L. Bean and Limited trims. A turbo version of this is available in the 2.5XT and hits 243 hp. The 3.0-liter H6 is a 6-cylinder boxer engine that gets 245 hp. The Outback seats 5 in two rows, with a cargo capacity that expands to 62 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. Standard equipment includes power features, a roof rack and air conditioning. More luxuries like heated leather seats, a sunroof and a navigation system come with the higher trims.
New in the 2007 Outback are a standard tire pressure monitor, MP3 capability and upgraded sound systems. The Basic model loses the power driver's seat. SI-Drive is now standard in the Outback XT. This allows you to select engine performance depending on whether you want a sporty drive or a more economical, gas-saving drive. There are 3 modes: Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp.
The 2007 Outback is popular for tackling snow and rough road conditions, though it has no low-range gearing for off-roading. The interior is comfortable, and the ride quiet and smooth. Owners love all the standard features. Complaints focus on cramped rear legroom, turbo lag, wind noise, and soft brakes that require a lot of foot pressure.

The body style is not exactly sexy. But the overall quality and value of the features are fantastic.

I have had the car since late 2006, now have 71K miles (of that, some long-haul trips: Washington, DC area to Maine & back; SC and back; to California). I am now experiencing some slippage or sluggishness when kicking down a gear (NOT fun when getting onto the freeway!); will have that looked at during the next service. Other than that, the car handles very well, and is a pleasure to drive on long-haul trips. Ah, one last comment: I heartily recommend the heated seats! NB: I rated "Back Seats" and "Family Car" but don't have a family and use the back seats for groceries. I guess it'd be OK, though.

The best car for off-road & snow country. Great suspension and comfortable handling. Subaru has packed this outback with loads of power for off-road conditions. No repairs required. Great looking car. Awesome. Cost of ownership- of course fuel economy will be compromised by the 4WD but it's a trade off. No complaints. Fun to drive. Fun to stretch, fun to play.

I love this car, when it comes to all around all weather performance you really can't do much better.
