The Lexus GX 470 was introduced in 2003, and gradual improvements have been made almost every year. For 2007, Lexus has upgraded the options. The navigation system gets more voice-activated controls, an MP3 input jack, and an improved display screen which can now play video. The rear display screen for the DVD entertainment system has also grown larger.

Otherwise, the mid-size SUV remains unchanged. The GX 470 is available in only style, and well-equipped with the full list of the expected Lexus luxuries. Standard features include heated mirrors, illuminated running boards, heated/power front seats, full leather upholstery, maple wood trim, a moon roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an in-dash CD changer.

A TRD-style Sport Package may also be applied to the GX, which includes a unique interior and exterior details, and the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. Option packages are fairly flexible: the DVD navigation system can be attached to the premium Mark Levinson audio upgrade or the rear seat entertainment package, or all three can come together.

The GX 470 houses a 4.7 liter V-8, paired with a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. This VVTi-enhanced engine delivers 270 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The 5000+ pound SUV will speed from 0 to 60 mph in just over eight seconds, and it can haul 6500 pounds.
