About 2006 Porsche Boxster
Overview
Having redesigned its popular Boxster mid-engined roadster the previous year, Porsche added only a few upgrades to the 2006 models, as well as a few new items to the options list, such as a tire pressure monitoring system, advanced two-stage airbags, and a number of add-ons to the optional navigation system. The open-top Boxster was available in two models for 2006. The base convertible received a 2.7-liter, flat six-cylinder engine that produced 240 horsepower, while the Boxster S was powered by a 3.2-liter six-cylinder that produced 280 horsepower. Both engines were located behind the passenger compartment but ahead of the rear axle, hence the mid-engine designation. The base Boxster came with a standard five-speed manual transmission, while the Boxster S was equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. A five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission, with a gate for manual shifting, was available as an option for both models. Standard features for the base Boxster included air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power door locks, leather seats (power adjustable in the front), a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a tilt/telescoping column, a trip computer, power heated exterior mirrors, an anti-theft alarm system, cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo system with a CD player. Anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, Macpherson struts, and 17-inch alloy wheels with performance tires were also part of the package. In addition, the Boxster was equipped with a lightweight, sound-insulating convertible top with a heated glass rear window. Among the Boxster's assets, as noted by drivers, were its responsive handling, its ability to hug the road at high speeds, the easy-to-read instrument panel and dials, the sports-car exterior design, and the interior styling. Some drivers were less than impressed with the Boxster's stereo system, however. And drivers noted that while storage space in the vehicle was limited, it could be adequate with a little creativity when packing.

The car can be driven every day in confort and with ease through traffic, but when in open roads reaching pass 3,000 rpm the exhaust sound changes and it accelerates with ease to 6,500 rpm in each gear. This car makes you look for twisting roads and the long way to get anywhere. This is an absolute drivers car that never fights the driver and behaves entirely predictibly. The acceleration is not neck snapping, but it is very satisfying at 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, but more importantly when you get to a corner you can stop on a dime or more importantly you can come up to a turn an litteraly break just at the turn then you can power through the turn and exit at roughly twice the posted speed of any mountain road in California. I would have never done this with my previous Mustang with a supercharged V8. It would be absolutely scarry to accelarate through a turn. The build quality is excellent, interior and exterior trim is without rattles and they feel solid. The styling is pure Porsche, clean, simple, timeless. The top can be operated at slow speeds in 2nd gear. The cost of owning this car for 4 years has been less than the cost of owning a Honda Accord or Infiniti for the same miles and years. Two full synthetic oil changes, two brake fluid changes, one new battery and new rear tires. Tires is the most expensive cost of driving this car. If you drive it the way it begs to be driven you will spend money on tires, but you will be happy to spend the money because it will put a smile on your face each time you drive it. The fun starts the moment you wash it which you can do quickly and be on the road to your nearest mountain road diner or you local Costco (Two trunks). No matter your destination it simply will make you enjoy your drive.

I moved into this car from a 16 year old Miata. I bought this as a Certified Pre-Owned with 18,000 miles. It is warranted like a new car and looks like one too. The Boxster is way more powerful and easier to live with. It is as responsive as the Miata to steering and a great deal more stable and fun to drive. Braking is dead on, solid and strong. Even though it is a base model, acceleration is quite lively especially considering the previous car. It is a great car for long trips and for winding country roads. Uses premium fuel but gets 30mpg on a trip. Some economy car!

No comparison - this was a good value. The only thing missing was the owner’s manual.
