The braintrust at Maserati decided to give a little more for a lot less with the 2006 Maserati Coupe. While the 2 door, 4 passenger coupe got some minor changes for some of its optional packages, the headline came from a significant price markdown that should make this Italian throroughbred more accessible to the not-quite-as-rich and famous. The Maserati Coupe comes in two trims: the GT and Cambiocorsa.
Both trims pack plenty of power with a 4.2 L, 390 hp V8 engine. The GT uses 6 speed manual transmission and the Cambiocorsa goes with 6 speed automatic. While fuel consumption comes out to only about 13 mpg in the city, 18 on the highway, you can accelerate to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 177 mph. Owners can trick out their ride with 3 optional packages: Interior carbon-fiber trim, Vintage, and Executive. Overall, while reviewers say the design has gotten a little long in the tooth, pretty much everyone agrees that the 2006 Maserati Coupe delivers a terrific ride. Smooth handling, top-shelf acceleration, and an elegantly powerful V8 make the Coupe an experience almost unrivalled by its peers. The lower price tag won't hurt the Coupe's ardent following here in the States. If you have a little money to burn, no one could blame you for picking up this diminutive driving delight.
