Overview

2005 was a transitional year for the Volkswagen Jetta. In anticipation of a redesigned vehicle introduced mid-year, the previous year's models were sold well into the current year, and no changes were made to the Jetta wagons.
When the restyled New Jetta sedans did arrive, they were longer and heavier than previous models, with a length of nearly 15 feet and a weight of just under 3,300 pounds. Upgrades included a longer front end, new taillights, an improved safety system with additional airbags, a new steering system, and a new, more rigid suspension.
The standard engine was also upgraded, to a 150-horsepower, 2.5-liter five-cylinder powerplant, which was linked to a standard five-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic, also new for 2005, was optional. The 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine, which pumped out 100 horsepower, was also available.
In addition, standard features for the Jetta sedan were expanded for 2005, and included air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, a CD player, anti-lock brakes, and traction control. Stability control was standard on the higher-end trim packages, as were rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a CD changer, and a trip computer.
Drivers' reviews of the 2005 Jetta were mixed. Some drivers were impressed with the longer, heavier, more powerful vehicles while others felt the changes did little to improve the car. Some expressed concerns about the car's fuel economy, performance, and styling, though most felt the Jetta's interior appointments, safety features, and comfort were noteworthy.

Love my baby! Drives like a dream, great XM radio, lots of fun to drive, mechanically sound. Car has great acceleration, and is very roomy inside. It is bigger inside than my father's Lexus IS 350, a car that I disdain to the ends of the earth.

This is the diesel model, which is quiet and odorless, unless I use bio, and then it generally smells like french fries. I bought it with 10,000 miles, and have put on 45,000 so far. The car gets amazing fuel mileage, over 50 mpg on the highway and rarely under 35 in town! I have no clue why Americans are anti-diesel, but it's about time to get over it. The car is so far advanced in emissions it doesn't even register at the DEQ. It isn't a speed demon, but easily gets up to high speeds on cross country travel. Maintenance cost is minimal, I've only ever changed oils and filters. Stock tires are loud, but when replaced with quality Yokohamas the entire ride got way better and quieter. One problem with the trunk remote was replaced under warranty. Only problem I see is that they are very difficult to find, new or used, as they are in such high demand.

I have very mixed feelings about this car...I love what it was capable of, and what it was supposed to do. But the fact of the matter is, it kept failing! The engine and transmission were the only thing I didn't have problems with. So I sold it, went Japanese, and couldn't be happier!

Remarkable car drives as good when it was only 32, 700 miles. Hugh upgrade done to motor on the mechanical area of jetta. Braking has been upgraded with OEM parts that are slotted rotors front and back plus new brake pads. The VW Jetta drives very smooth especially a notice with the transmission filter and fluid kit change. Overall with the New VW Turbo charger recently replaced on 29 March 2012 what a difference. The motor has new lift injection pump and O2 Oxygen sensor and metering sensor. Plus new battery and new electronic Fuel pump and sensor for the gasoline tank. Drives and handles like new car.
