The 2005 Kia Optima is marketed as an alternative to the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, offering many of the same standard features, but at a lower price point and with a better warranty. According to owners, this mid-size family sedan is a great value, and many feel it has a smoother and more comfortable ride than its big-name competitors. There have been few changes to the Sonata-based Optima since its inception in 2001. For 2005, the upscale EX model gets a one-touch sunroof and special stitching on the optional leather upholstery. All models get clear lens turn signals. Both the base LX and EX are offered with either a 138-hp, 2.4-liter I4 engine or a 170-hp, 2.7-liter V6. The V6 has better pickup, and these models also offer optional ABS brakes in place of the four-wheel disc brakes. A 5-speed manual is standard on the LX I4, while all other models come with a 4-speed automatic with a Sport shift mode. This transmission is optional on the base LX I4. You'll find cruise control, full power features, and a CD player on the LX, while the EX upgrades to a power driver's seat, wood and chrome accents, a remote garage opener, sunroof, and automatic climate control.
