Overview

The Trailblazer's bigger brother, the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT adds 16 inches to the SUV's wheelbase (for a total of 129) and sits 2.6 inches taller. It also boasts room for seven passengers in three rows, compared to the Trailblazer's two rows. This puts it in a league with the Tahoe or Explorer, but the Trailblazer EXT comes at a cheaper price. A 4.2-liter, 275-hp inline-6 engine with a 4-speed HydraMatic is standard, but the EXT also has the option of a 5.3-liter, 290-hp V8 that delivers 325 lb-ft of torque. This engine is not offered on the regular Trailblazer. It is available in two trims (LS and LT), with either rear-wheel drive or automatic all-wheel drive for rough roads, but not off-roading.
New features for the 2004 Trailblazer EXT include a host of options, including power adjustable pedals, a navigation system, and XM radio. A new monochrome instrument panel is now standard. All trims feature ABS brakes and dual front and side impact airbags, with traction control offered on those with RWD. The base LS features dual-zone climate control and CD player, while the LT adds a power driver's seat, cruise control, and standard roof rack. A North Face Edition, aimed at outdoor adventure types, sports a stronger rack, body-colored cladding, rain-sensing wipers, off-road tires, more cargo compartments, and a duffel bag and blankets. For 2004 it gets standard 17-inch aluminum wheels.
Both second and third row fold, with the second row also flipping forward for rear access. Though they don't fold flat, with the rear seats down the cargo area expands from 23 to 107 cubic feet. Tow ratings hang around 6100-6300 pounds, depending on whether you have the heavier all-wheel drive system. According to most drivers, the aluminum I6 is surprisingly powerful, with great acceleration and hauling capabilities. Another big plus in the 2004 Trailblazer EXT is the interior space and the fact that it holds seven people. Handling is smooth and the style is sporty. Complaints mention a bland interior, the requisite poor fuel economy, and shallow cupholders. There also seems to be a problem with the A/C cutting off when idling.

4.2 liter V-6 is a great powerhouse, strong, good mileage for a mid-sized SUV - 19 highway, 15 city. No major repairs - wheel bearings, but that is pretty common after 50-75,0000 miles. good towing vehicle, hitch built in with bumper. easy for kids to get in and out of like the 3rd row back seat and fold down for storage. mine is a 2003, but the only choice they had was 2004. like the driving lights and headlights.

This car is loaded. Has all the bells and whistles. Nice ride. Milage a little high but I think it was a good value buy.

performance: acceleration is average, a little on the slow side when loaded up or towing (6 cylinders will do that tho'). Handling: can be a bit trick on off ramps and sweeping turns when it's slick or icy out...even in AWD or 4 HI....the rear wants to push itself around, which can catch you out quite quickly if you're not prepared for it. Build Quaility: Typical "American" fit and finish...Lots of brittle plastic, in unappealing shades of Grey, Charcoal and some othe Blackish-Grey colour I've seen nowhere else but in GM products! Overall tho', fairly durable considering 2 boys and a dog use it as a mobile playground at times! Cost of Ownership: gas mileage is good for a vehicle this size and weight with an underpowered engine! Four adults with luggage Toronto to Ottawa on about 2/3rds of a tank (albeit a BIG tank!) Fun Factor: It's not a Jeep or a Hummer....hard mud-bogging or offroading is out of the question; but far more capable than most Urban SUV's , or "Chelsea Tractors" as their know in the UK, once you get it into a spot of "Trouble"

It has lots of good aspects to it. Fold down 3rd row seating, leather interior, cleans up well, even Labrador hair comes off it!
