Overview

A luxury station wagon seems to be an oxymoron, but that's just what the 2003 Audi allroad quattro claims to deliver. The styling is so understated and unassuming, that Audi won't even use capital letters for their high performance family wagon.
The 2003 allroad features a 2.7-liter, 250-hp turbo V6 engine paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed Tiptronic clutchless auto/manual transmission is optional. Midyear in 2003 comes the extra power drivers were hoping for, in the form of a 4.2-liter, 300-hp V8. Finally, this heavier A6 gets a bit more kick. As with all Audis, ABS brakes, traction control, electronic stability, and numerous airbags are standard. A parking assist system, which warns of obstacles while backing up, is a new option in 2003. The rear-facing seat option has been discontinued.
The allroad quattro is more than just an all-wheel drive wagon with SUV aspirations. It adds a variable suspension for more confident footing and maneuverability in any road condition. Though it does not have as much cargo room as an SUV, it is adequate for family needs, with fold-down seats to expand capacity. And one thing that the allroad offers that SUVs don't is the incredibly roominess and luxury features inside, such as leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, sunroof, power adjustable seats, steering wheel controls, and memory settings. It's these well-thought out accessories that make owners fall in love with their 2003 allroad quattros. The precise handling and energetic engine add zest and the TT-inspired styling adds a bit of flair to this family hauler. Low points include an annoying turbo lag, poor gas mileage, and shoddy service from unhelpful dealers. Another complaint is the tendency for mud and dirt to collect under the huge wheel wells, interfering with performance.

My wife fell in love with this car while I was nervous about its reliabilty. After 3 months I am slowly falling in love. The car doesn't feel like a wagon (and certainly not an SUV). Compared to the Volvo XC70 we had before and liked, the allroad is a real performer. Five years old with 55k, it feels brand new. Tight and quiet and the quattro handles in the wet like it is on rails. Haven't had a chance in the snow yet. The interior is the best I have ever had. I am still nervous about the costs of ownership. I am surprised to find it gets better gas mileage than the Volvo, but it is still pretty mediocre. I don't know yet if buying a $45k car for $17k was a bargain or a money pit. For now, at least, I am enjoying it a lot.

Love it. Drives like a sports car, but works like an SUV. Gas mileage sucks... Dogs love it. Has cool perks like window shades standard. I feel safe in it. It feels more sturdy than any other car I've owner/driven. And it looks cool! I like Audis and they are making allroad in a smaller version - 4 cylinder in 2010.

Great ride, extremely versatile. Go from cruising the highway to mountain tops.

This has been a awesome car for the time I have owned it. The Quattro AWD is the best all wheel drive or four wheel drive system I have ever driven. It has no problem in Montana's snowing and icy winters. The winter package on this car is great to, after a day of skiing or a frigid walk back to the car the dual heated (front & rear seats) seating makes for a warm drive home. The Air Ride Suspension is a sweet addition, allows for you to raise and lower your suspension depending on what terrain you are driving on. I have only used this a primarily as a highway vehicle. On the flip side the Suspension in finicky in the cold temperatures. I have never opened the car up full tilt on the highway, but I can tell at certain times when accelerating It does have a little bit of turbo lag. Which has never been a problem for what I have used this vehicle for.
