Used 2002 Mazda MPV for Sale near Bloomington, IN
Since its introduction in 1989, there had been complaints from some drivers that Mazda's MPV minivan was underpowered, despite several power boosts throughout its production history. Perhaps reacting to those complaints, or perhaps simply because it was time, Mazda dropped a new engine under the hood of its popular minivan for 2002. The 3.0-liter V6 engine produced a respectable 200 horsepower, so families who packed into the seven-seater no longer had to sacrifice power for functionality.
Also new for '02 was a five-speed automatic transmission (no manual transmission was available), as well as powered sliding doors, updated brakes and suspension, and new 17-inch alloy wheels.
Finally, the line was narrowed, with the entry-level DX trim package dropped. The MPV was available in only two versions for 2002. The base LX version came with a fairly extensive list of standard features, including air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a lighted entry system, dual airbags, power exterior mirrors, an AM/FM/CD audio system, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and anti-lock brakes.
The higher-end ES package added leather seats (powered in the front), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning with front and rear vents, and a premium audio system with both CD and cassette players. A DVD player and a sunroof were among the options.
Drivers noted that the MPV's revamped suspension helped make the vehicle more nimble, and they also like the fact that the third-row seat could be stowed in the floor to improve cargo space. Styling and handling were also given good marks, though on the downside, drivers noted that the vehicle could be noisy at speed and gas mileage was not as good as expected.

(9 reviews)I'm still driving this at 192,500 miles and it is still comfortable with get up and go. I'm starting to look for a replacement just because of the mileage and some minor problems that may befixable for not too much money.
Very good performance for a van, great acceleration, go-kart like handling. Rather narrow.
I've owned this car for less than a year, but it's made a pretty good impression so far. This is one of the shortest minivans available in today's market, and the advantages are huge. First, of all, where I live, San Francisco, parking is a big deal. The MPV is more than a foot shorter than the Honda Odyssey, and you'd be surprised at how many more spaces are available because of that. The cargo room only decreases by a little, so this trade-off is highly worth it. Compared to its main competitors from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan, the MPV is also a Lot lighter...900 pounds under the Odyssey, 500 under the Sienna, and 700 under the Quest. It's not a one-sided battle, obviously, with the engine lagging behind the others by an average of 40 hp. Still, the lower weight makes this car feel much more agile through turns. Of course, nobody in their right mind would try to actually race with a minivan, but it's just a confidence-inspiring ride.
Just paid $850 at auction. Paid smog, tags, taxes for $850 bought taillight covers, various interior parts that were missing, started driving. Ran around town on errands, gave rides to flea market, shopping car was great! No complaints or further problems. Seem well designed and a good machine. I think its gonna be a keeper.
great reliable family car. Comfortable and spacious, great moon roof. Cargo area decent size. Not to stylish outside, however inside is great. The rear ac system could be improved to be independent from the from one. Great engine, I wish Mazda has a 4 cylinders variance.
